I'm still laughing.

One of my favorite clients shared one of her recent promotion ideas that rocketed her sales over the same quarter last year.

The hilarious part was when Angela told me what she'd done - her eyes were huge, an eyebrow arched into the air - and she said ...

" Kim, you're never going to believe this."

Her client base is predominantly male as she works with companies who lease equipment of all shapes and sizes.

She decided she wanted to achieve 3 things:

1. Dramatically increase her sales for the quarter

2. Support a local small business

3. Create something fun and enticing for her customers

So What Did She Do?

She bought meat.

But not just any kind of meat.

She supported a local retailer who sells premium Canadian bison.

If her clients and potential clients spent a certain dollar amount within the 3 month period - then they received a Fred Flintstone sized box of bison.

People almost had to strap it to the tops of their cars. (think Fred and Barney here!)

So Did Her Calculated "Stakes" Win Out?

Well let's just say Angela knows her target audience.

Her sales sky-rocketed 400% over the same time last year! (Hooray!)

Why Was This Such A Grade A Promotion?

- She Understood Her Target Audience. Women don't get too excited about the meat offer (keep your jokes to yourself lady!). However - GUYS LOVE MEAT - especially something that is considered expensive and premium quality.

- She Created A Sense of Urgency. This wasn't the "Never-ending Bison Story." Oh no - if you didn't spend the proper dollar amount within 90 days then NO MEAT FOR YOU.

- She Did Something Different. She could have given away golf stuff or some tickets to the Edmonton Oilers hockey game....but that's all been done before. This was just weird enough to capture the attention and desire of her clients.

- She Created A Strategic Alliance. Angela supported a local, small business and sent almost $10,000 his way in bison orders. He's happy, her clients are happy, and Angela's banker is drooling!

My Diva Dare To You?

What could YOU offer to your clients in the next few months that would entice and encourage them to spend more (or even buy from you the first time?)

Think rare, think sizzling and you'll be on your way to WELL DONE!

By: Drew Laughlin | 22/09/2006 | Business
Fatal Mistake No. 2 is "Winging It." When presenting to a prospect, how many times have you not really known much about his business or not really known what you're going to say or what road you're going to take the prospect down? This is a huge error salespeople make far too often. I know because I've been there.

Many Sales People Live Too Much In The Moment Yes - I know we're taught by the self-help gurus to "live in today." But when it comes to business and especially to selling, that is the kiss of death. I see it all the time. People get excited when they close a big sale and then promptly throw all caution to the wind and spend every cent. Sometimes they even do it ahead of time (before the sale is even closed)...and that is a recipe for disaster sister.
