How to master telemarketer cold calling

If you are into sales, you probably want to master telemarketer cold calling.  You need to do cold calling if you want to generate leads and make sales.  However, this is easier said than done.  From the term itself, cold calling means calling someone who is a prospective customer but they don’t know that yet.  You will be calling and probably disturbing someone who’s not expecting a call from you.  If you have been on the receiving end of such calls, you know how difficult it can be.

Most businesses would require you to do cold calls.  It’s one of the most outdated lead generation and selling strategy that businesses usually require.  If you’re in one of those businesses, here are some tips to master telemarketer cold calling:

  • Prepare

If you’re cold calling, you can’t just “wing it” especially during the start of the call.  You need to have a script handy and you have to be ready with answers to questions and rebuttals.  You will be taking up their time if you’re cold calling so make sure that it’s worth it.

  • Introduce

This is where you will usually get the profanities and the slamming down of the phone.  There’s really no workaround to this.  You have to state who you are, who you’re representing and what you can do for the customer.  Don’t sell at this point.  Offer a solution at once by telling the customer what they can gain if they stay on the line.

  • Educate

This is the hardest part to master telemarketer cold calling.  You have to teach, but don’t sell.  Present your product in such a way that you have the solution to their needs.  Teach them about what your product or service can do.

  • Engage

If you can’t engage your customer after educating them, then you’re in big trouble.  You should have educated them well enough to spark an interest from them.  From here, encourage them to ask questions and answer them.

  • Keep ownership

Now is the time to sell.  If they need time to think about it, then by all means keep in touch until they say yes.  You can then set appointments on when you can talk again.
