Promotion involves publicize product information that would include product type and line, brand and company. It a key aspect of marketing mixes. The objectives of a promotional plan can be sales increase, product acceptance in case of new product, creating brand equity, brand positioning or establishing corporate image.

A method of promotion is imprinted items or promotional products with logo or advertising message imprint on them In case of promotional products most of the items are imprinted with company's name, logo or slogan, and distributed in trade show, conference etc. inks

Although any thing can be branded with a company’s name or logo for promotion. The more popular items are plastic cups and mugs, t-shirts, caps, key chains, stickers, pens or letter pads. The biggest type of promotional marketing items is wearable products as dresses, caps and sport shirts. Though most promotional items are usually inexpensive and of smaller size but customized costlier items are often used as corporate gifts and as gift at higher end of the audience. Good example of the latter are ceos, top level managers and celebrities who are often given imprinted bottles of expensive perfumes, expensive leather items as handbags, and electronics products.

Promotional products are also used at building traffic in trade shows, brand awareness, PR, new product introductions customer referrals and marketing. The first known promotion items in US are commemorative buttons dating back to the election of George Washington in 1789. During 19th century some advertising calendars and wooden items emerged. Many entrepreneurs then picked up the idea. Lately Promotional Products Association International, which has more than 7,500 global members, was established. The total sale of promotional products in US is around 19 billion dollars and continues to grow at phenomenal rates.

Many promotional product companies and individual sell their merchandise online on the Net through their website. Buyers and large scale purchasers can buy these products at their online shopping carts.
