Use of Lifting Equipments to Expedite Industrial Output

The importance of lifting equipment in ensuring industrial safety can't be over exemplified. Installation of lifting devices is a mandatory requirement as per industrial guidelines for ensuring security of workers at workplaces. Today, a number of lifting equipment are used to carry out industrial lifting operations, the most common ones being cranes, chain slings, pallet trucks, shacks, pulling machines and the and minimize the use of manual labor

Among all the lifting devices used in factories, cranes are most popular. Cranes are of many types and vary according to their use and functionality. Most notable forms of cranes used in industrial operations are railroad cranes, telescopic cranes, tower cranes, and the like. Most traditional cranes functioned by the mechanism of lever, fulcrum and pulley.

The use of tower cranes has gained popularity in high rise towers and buildings. The vertical portion of the device is braced to a concrete structure, usually located in the centre of the building and the upper part consists of two arms. The shorter arm carries counterweight of concrete blocks while the longer arm carries a lifting gear. A crane operator sits in a cabin at the top of the tower and operated the device by means of a remote control. But now days, the traditional ones have been replaced by hydraulic cranes. The basic principle behind the operation of all cranes is more or less the same. Almost all cranes function on the principle of conservation of energy. To put in simple way, the energy delivered in the load can never exceed the energy put into the cranes.

Apart from cranes, shackles too are widely used lifting devices. Shackles are U-shaped devices that are used to lift piece of metal secured with a pin or bolt.  Shackles are generally used in crane and other forms of rigging operations. Snap shacks are quite popular in the lot. Snap shackles function on spring mechanism. It actually uses a lock mechanism monitored by spring that can be unfastened under load. Though snap shacks are not quite safe for all industrial operations, it is a handy device that serves a lot of purpose.

Among all forms of shacks used in industrial operations, pin shacks, twist shacks are quite popular. The use of bow shacks too has gained popularity. It is capable of taking load from all directions and thus reduces pressure on sides. 

Another important industrial lifting equipment that deserves mention if forklift truck. Though its invention dates back to early twenties, it is still one of the most widely used lifting equipment. The load capacity of the truck generally varies between one to five tons. Most common forms of forklift trucks used are hand pallet truck, towing tractor, rider stacker, walkie stacker and the like. However use of forklift trucks is susceptible to risks and should be used with adequate safety devices.

In a nutshell, all lifting equipment are used to minimize use of manual labors in factories and to boost up industrial production. However, the application of the same should be handles with care and should be used only after confirming adequate safety norms.
