Wood Shutters are for Decoration and Protection

The two main reasons why home-owners install shutters on the outside of their windows are for decoration and for protection. The addition of wood shutters on a house gives the home a distinctive style and offers climate protection.

Unlike vinyl or aluminum, the properties of wood have strength and insulating abilities for protection from cold and heat. In inclement weather, shutters can be closed to protect windows from flying debris, rain, or snow. In hot climates, shutters also keep out direct sun from heating the interior of the home and from fading furniture and carpets.

Shutters have a decorative appeal too. Different styles of shutters can create a theme for a house: louvered shutters look like a Cape Cod cottage; raised panel shutters give a colonial look; and board and batten looks like rustic country or ranch. Taking the interior decorating theme outside of the house will make the home décor look coordinated and well thought out.

Wood shutters are individually handcrafted and can be made to custom sizes. They may be painted or stained, and are extremely durable and long lasting. Fixed wood shutters are just for decoration, but the addition of pull rings can emphasize the theme that you are trying to achieve. Functional shutters need shutterdogs or tie backs, slide bolts, and hinges in order to operate properly. These hardware items are decorative and add authenticity to the shutter.

Adding extra touches to the exterior of a house will add value and marketability to a home when it is time to sell. In today’s competitive market, sellers need to make their homes look better than the rest. Interior staging, fresh paint, and adding shutters to the windows can give a seller the edge that will bring in the sale they want.

By: gregory van duyse | 20/08/2009 | Martial Arts
Many people think that women and martial arts don't mix. They think that women are too fragile. Or, if a woman gets involved in martial arts she will start fighting or get aggressive and mean. Sometimes, and this one is funny, people think that only unattractive and manly looking women get involved in martial arts. None of these are true. In fact, these myths are just plain ridiculous.
