Basics about the science of chemistry

Posted: Dec 08, 2009 | Comments: 0 | Views: 215 | Share

Chemistry is a natural science that studies matter and substances of which the universe is made. It examines their properties and structure, as well as their internal structure. Chemistry also studies the changes of matter in any way. It is also important to mention that through a chemical reaction the composition of matter is significantly altered, while through the process of physical change, the chemical composition isn't altered.

There are many specialized fields of chemistry, and here we will mention only the most important ones:

Inorganic chemistry, is a branch of chemistry that studies basically all chemical substances, including many that contain carbon. The interests of inorganic chemistry are substances like metals, metal oxides, minerals, non-metal elements, and so on.

The branch known as physical chemistry studies the interdependence of physical and chemical changes, and is greatly related to the branches of inorganic and organic chemistry. Various types of changes of energy states are also something that physical chemists often explore.

Chemical technology is a branch of engineering that studies methods and devices that are used for production of organic and inorganic substances that are necessary for many different human activities.

Nuclear chemistry on the other hand deals with the study of reactions involving the atomic nuclei (as opposed to other branches of chemistry, which mostly study the reactions between the very atoms or molecules).

Biochemistry is basically a branch of science that studies the matter and chemical reactions in living organisms. It is closely related to many other branches of chemistry. It studies the ways in which various chemicals react within living organisms.

Organic chemistry is one of the largest and most important branches of chemistry. It studies the substances that contain the element carbon, among them those that are integral parts of the organic world. In this branch of chemistry, there is still much more to be discovered, and the number of discovered organic substances raises dramatically every year.

And at the end, we must not forget analytical chemistry which is a branch of chemistry that deals with the study of chemical and physical processes which can be used to conclude the qualitative and quantitative chemical composition of the substance(s) that are investigated.

An object that is observed under microscope can be immortalized by using camera. A compound microscope that has two ocular lenses is usually completed with the lens part for camera.

Not far from the birth of TEM, SEM was first developed in 1938 by Manfred von Ardenne (Germany scientists). The basic concept of SEM was actually delivered by Max Knoll (inventor TEM) in 1935. SEM worked depending on the principle of electron beam scans on the sample surface, and then the information that was obtained was subsequently changed to the images.

There are two types of electron microscopes that are commonly used. They are transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

The word microscope derives from the Greek, namely the word micron = small and scopos = purpose. Overall, it is a tool used to view objects that are too small to be seen by the naked eye.

For maintenance, the microscope should be stored in a cool, dry, dust free and acid free place. The appropriate place for storing is a microscope box that is equipped with silica gel, which is hygroscopic, so the environment that surrounds it not humid. Moreover, you can place the lamp in a cupboard to prevent the growth of fungus.

It is known that the microscope consists of optical and non optical parts. Non-optical parts are composed of parts where you need to adjust their function in the process of service. Meanwhile, in optical parts, there is a process of cleaning the lens in which each lens depends on its magnification. The greater the magnification is, the more the lens layers compose.

The function of a microscope is influenced by several factors, such as its age, the intensity of its use, its quality/origin/manufacturer, and the behavior and responsibility of the user in using it.

Microscope is one important tool that is functional to see objects or organisms that are so small. Along with the progress of science and technology, types of microscopes and zoom capabilities experience the advance.

The most common type of ulcer that people suffer from is the peptic ulcer, that is defined as a mucosal erosion that is equal or larger than 0.5 cm. It occurs in the gastrointestinal tract that is usually acidic and thus very painful. There are several ways in which one can achieve ulcer relief. Complications related to it can be reduced and even prevented in the first place.
