Leaopard is the smallest of the big cats.They have brown skin with black spots.They are found in forested areas and can mostly be seen resting on tree branches or on ant hills and rocks during the day.Leopards usually live on their own although they sometimes group when hunting.They are known to leap long distances and swim in deep water and across rivers when hunting.
A Leopards 1.5 - 2.6 feet tall and 3 - 6 feet long to the tail.Leopards have a lifespan of about 20 years with males weighing 80 - 200 pounds and females slightly smaller in size and weight.
Leopards have a gestation period of 90 - 105 days and five birth to 1-6 kittens weighing 1 pound.The kittens accompany their mother for about 18 - 24 months before they start depending on their own.
The Leopards have powerful limbs useful for climbing trees, strong jaws and shoulders.This makes them good hunters where they can attack their prey with the strong claws and drag away from other preditors mostly to top of trees.Their preys include antelopes,hares,rodents and domestic animals if they are living near human settlements.
The known threat to the Leopards is man who kills it for its smart skin and when protecting their livestock from being preyed on.Trading of leopard products is illegal
The Leopards are seen any where in the wild in Kenya and a tour to the National parks and reserves to spot one though they are shy and often hide during the day.
