UFO Phenomena- Unexplained Objects in Our Skies
http://www.yallways.com
UFOs, or Unidentified Flying Objects, have fascinated people for thousands of years. Any unexplained sighting of an object in the sky can be characterized as a UFO phenomenon. While some of these intriguing reports may be simple cases of mistaken identity or optical illusion, many remain a mystery. The curious nature of UFO phenomena has led countless individuals to search for answers to these unexplained sightings. Most people believe UFOs to be extraterrestrial crafts traveling to Earth. However, no definitive proof of this exists.
Ancient observers made numerous accounts of UFO phenomena. Most of these can be explained as known astronomical bodies, which would have appeared mysterious to early humans. For example, comets were frequently reported by early civilizations as unexplained orbs in the sky. Most early UFO reports were associated with religious beliefs and considered to have spiritual significance. They are recorded in early texts and artwork, which survive today for historical research.
Modern research into UFO phenomena began after World War II. Since that time, researchers have attempted to apply hard science to UFO sightings. Events occurring during the war helped spark an interest in the topic. Most notably, pilots from various divisions reported seeing “Foo Fighters,” unexplained objects sharing their airspace. Many of these sightings were supported by unexplained radar readings and other instrumental records. As the major world powers experienced more and more UFO reports, government research projects were established. In the United States, the most famous project was “Project Blue Book,” which was conducted by the Air Force over the course of twenty-two years. Similar projects arose in Canada, France, Britain, Germany, Russia, and other nations.
Those who study UFO phenomena are said to be engaged in ufology. These researchers use a variety of evidence to try and secure an explanation for UFO sightings. Data frequently includes photographs of alleged flying objects. While many of these are hoaxes or the result of a photographic error, some appear to be credible images of unidentifiable designs. Several modern sightings have also been captured on video camera. Again, many of these documentary pieces lack credibility. However, analysis of quality footage has engaged many ufologists. In a few, select cases, physical evidence has supposedly been found at UFO crash sights. Most notably, the infamous Roswell, New Mexico case is said to have resulted in both craft wreckage and extraterrestrial remains. However, the accuracy of these reports remains in question, and few pieces of debris have undergone credible, scientific scrutiny.
Although many people claim UFO phenomena are associated with extraterrestrial life, there are other theories supported by researchers in the field. Among the more creative claims is the theory that unidentifiable sights are actually spiritual lights from ghosts or sprites. It has also been suggested that UFOs are craft used to travel through time. More rational explanations include the belief that UFO sightings are actually the result of abnormal weather patterns or astronomical events. Additionally, some postulate that the mysterious sights are actually secretive aircraft constructed by our world’s more advanced nations.
The term “UFO” was not coined until the 1940s. However, sightings that can be classified as UFO phenomena began millennia earlier. Although some cases can be explained, many remain a mystery. Thus, researchers continue to search for clues to define these unidentifiable sights. Whether they are representative of extraterrestrial life remains unknown. However, it seems unlikely that all UFO phenomena were the result of earthly objects.
