I really don’t know what Extra Antivir pretends to offer beyond what actual antivirus programs do. I know what extras it does give. It gives spyware. To boot, the antivirus program isn’t remotely worth the trouble to have.
First, let’s talk in terms everyone can understand. Money. It costs more to buy Extra Antivir than it does to buy many real programs. SpyZooka, for instance, is about half the price of Extra Antivir.
That’s assuming that that’s all it charges. Extra Antivir is a corrupt security tool. It’s a corrupt program, made by corrupt people and used by more of the same. Your credit account could wind up wiped out. Once you give them your number, that’s the risk you take.
As an antivirus program, Extra Antivir is just horrible. As far as I can tell, it can’t really clean any viruses out, and it doesn’t update. It’s just a shell of a program. It’s a lot of crap for twice what you need to spend, if not more.
Another really awful part of getting Extra Antivir is that you have to go through a spyware infection to get it. It’s actually a multiple infection.
It starts with a download of a Trojan downloader called Zlob. It will be disguised as a video codec that says you have to download it in order to watch a video. That, or you may think you’re getting a pirated movie from someone on a peer to peer (P2P) file sharing list.
This downloader will download the other spyware parts of Extra Antivir without you knowing. The first thing you see is a pop up scanner that I typically call a “warning screen.” You get to know how many temporary files you have, but it will call them viruses. It looks scarier than it actually is. No personal computer could handle that kind of load, I assure you.
After that’s all done, it says that you need to download the “full version” of Extra Antivir to clean up this horrible “infection.” Of course, you don’t want to do that, as I said above. It will say that you have a choice to take it or not, but the window keeps popping back up after you click "no."
Now, Extra Antivir will hijack your browser, again using spyware, to take you to its sales page. Your browser is pretty much stuck here. It doesn’t want you to know that you have a real option to decline. It wants your number. However, you can still close your browser or turn off your computer. Either one will get you out of this mess.
So now consider this: Extra Antivir is at least twice as expensive as SpyZooka. It’s a bare shell of a program that doesn’t update, while SpyZooka is an award-winning program that updates within minutes of a new spyware release. It gives you spyware to convince you to buy it, while SpyZooka gives a 100% spyware removal guarantee. Really, there’s no comparison, is there?
