The computer's IE is often attacked by malicious sites or software frequently. This troublesome action can disable IE and cause a large number of IE errors. Because computer viruses are aplenty, when you use anti-viruses software do manage to contain them most of the time, but some may make some irreversible changes to your computer, especially in the registry which maybe much more difficult to correct.
It's beyond the scope of this article to cover all of the potential fixes for my "Top 5" Internet Explorer issues, but what you'll find here is what experience has taught me is most likely to succeed.
1. Issues viewing Web pages:
Page cannot be displayed;
Red x instead of pictures;
View, Source doesn't work.
Reason 1: The image is hosted on a website that's busy, temporarily offline or defunct. Or the image file on the website might have been renamed or deleted.
Solution: Try again later or ask the sender to send it as an attachment instead of an inline image.
Reason 2: The image is hosted on a website, and you're not online.
Solution: Make sure your internet connection is active and try again.
Reason 3: Your Internet Explorer security settings are set too high, preventing you from accessing the web site which hosts the image.
Solution: Reset to the default security settings. Within Internet Explorer pages, click on Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Default Level
2. Issues viewing IE homepage and Default page:
If adware or spyware change your default home and/or search pages in Internet Explorer, you can change them back again. Note that if adware or spyware is still on your system while you make these changes, they may revert back, so be sure to clean your system first.
1. Open an Internet Explorer page.
2. Click Tools and Internet Options.
3. When the settings dialog opens, click General.
4. Underneath "Home page", enter your desired Internet Explorer home page.
5. Or, if desired, choose "Use Current" or just "Use Blank" page as your home page.
6. Click "OK" and save your settings.
3. Issues related with deleting IE URL history:
Whenever you open a site in Internet Explorer, its URL is saved automatically and can be seen by clicking on the little down arrow in the address bar.
Many times we want to delete a particular URL from this list. Internet Explorer provides a way to clear the whole History. You can also set the days to store the history from Internet Explorer Options but there is no way to delete any particular URL from history.
Today I'll tell you how you can delete your desired URL from IE History:
1. Open regedit and goto:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerTypedURLs
2. In right-side pane, you'll see all typed URLs as shown in following screenshot:
3. Delete the desired URL and it'll disappear from IE URL bar history.
4. Issues related with enabling registry editor:
To enable registry editor that was disabled by some malware, please do the following to regain access and perform maintenance:
Enable Registry Editor using Group Policy Editor
1. Click on the Start > Run and type "gpedit.msc" on the field (without ").
2. Navigate to:
- User Configuration
- Administrative Templates-
- System.
3. On the option: Prevent access to registry editing tools
4. Click Disabled and click on the OK button to save settings.
5. Reboot your computer.
Enable Registry Editor Using Registry Keys
If the above procedure does not work. You may also use a tool to reset registry keys. Make sure to backup your registry before making any changes.
5. Issues related with IE right button:
Many websites nowadays disable the right click function of the mouse button which I think could be very annoying sometimes. This is done so that we can't steal images, file, video, or any other website's stuff. What about if we extremely in a need of the file without any profit-making and other bad intentions? In this post a tutorial is included to teach you how to solve the problem, without having to open the source code of course!
If you use Internet Explorer 6 and 7
- Click "Tools"->"Internet Options"
- Click the "Security" tab.
- Click "Custom Level"
- Scroll down to the "scripting" section.
- Set "Active Scripting" to "disable" (Active scripts are programs written in Javascript)
- Click "Ok". Restart your internet browser.
Note: This will disable the Javascript from being rendered by your Internet Explorer browser which would mean the right click disabled's script in the website will not work anymore.
