How to Restore Your Credit After Identity Theft

Losing your identity to a fraudster can cost you lots and even be a nightmare but there is a solution. Credit after losing your identity can be restored so an individual should not despair about it. First the claimant needs to get to the police and file a report about your identity theft.

Reporting of these matters should be done to the available theft identity programs available near you. The next thing the claimant needs to do is close all the accounts and go to the bank to have or get a report on his or her credit status. Credit cards are used in fuel stations, stores, markets and these places should be called as well.Calling them will ensure that no one is allowed to purchase anything with your credit card. The information given to the authorities about the credit is then verified by the institutions the claimant had secured the credits in. That is the insurance firms, banks and many more. All the related accounts need to be frozen with immediate effect.

The claimant also needs to identify where the identity theft took place and if the perpetrators might have acquired more risky information like the social security number or drivers licence.Securing ones credit after fraud is a daunting task because it means going through the authorities at every stage. The information at hand with correcting the credit card should be verified at each point. Make sure as the claimant to inform all the credit reporting agencies to ensure accuracy during the entire process.

Follow ups also need to be done on each and every report to ensure that there is progress in your case. Keep a note of the developments and it is wise to have a note of the dates and timing on each time you visit the credit restorer. Restoring credit after theft should be taken seriously as it can save the claimant a lot of money.

With the rate at which identity theft is growing it is better to be safe than sorry. It is advisable to always carry your credit cards only if you have to. Incase of identity theft you can always restore your credit card.
