Internet Antivirus Pro: New Name, Same Scam

One of the most recent additions to the long list of rogue security tools is Internet Antivirus Pro.  It’s a particularly obnoxious program that presents a high risk to your computer’s performance and your personal security.  If you get it, you should definitely remove it.

Internet Antivirus Pro and other rogue security software operate on the basis that some Internet users don’t know how real security tools work.  If they can make people think that there are security programs out there, patrolling the Internet to catch people when they get infected, they can swindle them out of their money.

Here’s how the scam works.  Some Web sites on the Internet are infected or corrupted.  They provide a lure for people to manually download a Trojan Downloader like Zlob or Vundo.  This program will then provide a way for programs like Internet Antivirus Pro to download onto a computer.

Once it imbeds itself on a computer, Internet Antivirus Pro will start sending the user pop-up messages saying that their computer is infected, or that warn against unsafe browsing practices.  It will then suggest that the user download security software and provide a link to their Web site.

The scan that Internet Antivirus Pro offers the user provides a great deal of shock value.  The virus infection that it tells you that you have is purely outrageous.  Such an infection would almost completely disable a computer, and you would not be getting these messages.

To make this whole fabrication more believable, Internet Antivirus Pro will work in the background, sapping your computer’s memory.  This will make your system run slower, and some programs may even crash.  This is not the action of a horde of viruses; it’s a spyware infection.

Speaking of which, Internet Antivirus Pro will take control of your browser and lead it inevitably to its website.  They want you to be constantly reminded that you “should” buy their product.  They try to paint themselves as being helpful, but they only want your money.  Maybe all of it.

If for some reason you buy the full version of Internet Antivirus Pro, you’re going to be disappointed.  For one thing, your problems haven’t gone away, and they may have even gotten worse.  The program you get is junk, and you’re out way too much money for a supposed antivirus program to boot.  Even worse, you may become a victim of identity theft.

The junk program is easily removed by the "Add/Remove Programs" function.  The spyware part of Internet Antivirus Pro isn’t quite so easy to remove.  Manual removal instructions exist, but I wouldn’t recommend it.  It’s too easy to get lost in the details, make a mistake, and maybe harm your computer if you’re not computer savvy enough.

What is the suggested method of removing Internet Antivirus Pro thoroughly is a good, completely up-to-date antispyware program.  Since this is a new rogue program, make sure that your antispyware updates frequently, and has a 100% removal guarantee.
