Think XP-PoliceAntivirus is a Good Thing? Think Again

XP-PoliceAntivirus is another rogue anti-spyware program designed to dupe you. This software will alert you that threats and viruses are present on your pc. This is an attempt to frighten you into purchasing their product in order to restore security to your computer. Does it work? Absolutely not, in fact, the malware that it detects is probably not there to begin with - they just want your money.

This fake software appears to be recognized by Windows, but it isn't. The XP and colors of the program logo are similar to those of Windows, but don't be fooled. This product is not approved by Microsoft, so steer clear. They simply want your money, and that is it. If you actually have spyware on your pc, you want legitimate software that will actually restore your security.

If you aren't familiar with spyware, here is some information you need in case you ever have a problem. Spyware is software that installs itself on your computer, usually through other programs you download. Freeware, weather and online computer games are often where these malicious software programs come from. You won't know you have it until you begin noticing the symptoms.

What are these symptoms? Often, your pc will become extremely slow on start up, or even while you are browsing. You will be bombarded with pop-up and banner ads, and may even notice a changed homepage. Sometimes your browser will redirect, or you will have a new toolbar installed. If you see changes like this, it is time to find a reliable anti-spyware product.

The ads or spam emails you receive are commonly related to topics you have been searching for. How is this possible? Spyware actually tracks what you do online; therefore it knows what you are interested in. This way, you will be sent advertisements that are targeted specifically for you. This is done in hopes that you will click on one of the ads and make a purchase.

Fake anti-spyware products such as XP-AntiVirus, once downloaded, will often install even more malware on your pc. In fact, some of these rogues can really cause damage to your computer by infecting or removing files. In rare cases, your pc may even crash. This is why it is so important that you keep a keen eye open for programs that may seem good, but aren't. There are reliable products that will eliminate spyware and restore your security. Many won't completely eliminate the problems with one scan, which means you must purchase another to finish the job.

Spyware can actually get hold of private information as well. Passwords and online business accounts are sometimes accessed, which puts your personal identity at risk. If you believe your computer is infected, get a reputable product as soon as possible. Search for a product that guarantees they will do what they say they will and has the reputation to back it up.
