Stun Guns Vs. Pepper Spray

It is very common for people to wonder what the differences are between stun guns and pepper spray. There are legal differences as well as effectiveness differences also. Some of the things you should keep in mind when you are looking for self defense or personal protection products include how close you have to be to an attacker to use them, legalities, size, immobilization capabilities, and much more.

Stun guns are not legal in all states. There are some cities and states that they are considered illegal and you are not allowed to own one. If you do not know, you should check with your local sheriff or police department before purchasing one. Pepper Spray is legal in all 50 states. However, a number of cities and states have restrictions on sizes, strengths, etc.. If you have a question, it is wise to check with you local city or state attorneys office.

The sizes of pepper spray and stun guns can vary depending on if you would like something tiny and disguised or something that fits or grips in your hand that is much larger. You can purchase pepper spray in the form of a lipstick container, a pager, a writing pen, and more. You can also purchase a stun gun that looks exactly like a cell phone. When you hit a button it is ready to use against your attacker.

One of the things you want to think about when you are trying to decide if you should purchase a stun gun or a canister of pepper spray is how long the person will be immobilized. When you use pepper spray you can be several feet away and the stopping power on your attacker is excellent. It can disable someone for 15 - 30 minutes. A stun gun must be used directly on the target, which means you have to be much closer to the attacker. This could give the attacker a chance to get the stun gun from you. The stun guns stopping power is much better and more effective than pepper spray but it will only immobilize an attacker for approximately 3 - 7 minutes. That still should be enough time to get away from the attacker.

Both pepper spray and stun guns are safe to use and they do not do any permanent damage to an attacker. If you are worried about hurting someone or killing them, you won't. There are extremely rare cases where people have died due to respiratory problems and pepper spray, and heart problems and stun guns. These are very rare and not common at all. Pepper spray is the least expensive to buy and you can find it for as little as $10 to $20. Stun guns can cost you from $25 to $100.

There are many differences between pepper spray and stun guns you should consider if you are looking to buy a personal protection device for self defense. Always be clear how to use these items, which ones are most effective, how long the effectiveness will last, and more.

Some factors are important to people for different reasons. It is a very wise decision to invest in something like pepper spray or a stun gun to protect yourself and avoid becoming a victim.
