By practicing one simple concept and learning a handful of skills you can transform your life and your relationships. Really? Yes, really. Millions of people foil their own efforts everyday because they are unaware of how their words impact others. They don't realize that it's their own fundamental communication choices that keep the love they want, the trust, cooperation, success, and general life they want always out of reach.
The simple principle is this: Like Attracts Like. We know this from a very early age. We expect rose bushes to produce roses, brown bears come from other brown bears, Lutherans find other Lutherans, liberals are attracted to the ideals of other liberals, sports fans gravitate to the sports that appeal to them most, and on it goes. One doesn't go to clown school expecting to learn nutrition.
“Birds of a feather flock together”. Benjamin Franklin said that. “What goes around comes around.” Like attracts like is the essence of understanding Karma. If you lie, cheat, and steal, others will lie, cheat and steal from you. Surprised? No.
This simple concept is why some people seems to get everything they want while others stand by empty handed. When we communicate, positive statements tend to produce positive results. Negativity creates more negativity. When you mix positive and negative tactics, you get mixed results.
Picture yourself in the kitchen makng cookies. You put all the ingredients in your mixing bowl and follow the directions perfectly. Then you place the cookie sheet in the oven for 9 minutes. You're not surprised to see golden brown cookies come out of the oven.
You don't rant and rave at how unfair the world is because an apple pie didn't come out of the oven. That would be absurd you reason because you didn't put the ingredients for an apple pie into your mixing bowl. Yet this is exactly what millions of people do everyday in the relationships that matter to them most.
People scream. They use put-downs, sarcasm, anger, domination, lies, name calling, threats, punishment, and pure cruelty as they try to get what they want. Then they sit in a corner, oh so sad, whining about “poor me” because their spouse leaves, their kids “don't listen”, nobody loves them, they've got nothing and all they do is work so hard. Sad? Ignorant? True? Using negative ingredients when communicating is less likely to produce long lasting positive relationships or results.
Positive results can be produced by anyone who learns how to detect their own negative habits. They can instantly turn bad patterns around by replacing negative habits with positive ones. Usually, those who implement a positive strategy get instant positive feedback and instant positive results. They actually feel the difference in their bodies.
There are thousands of books on communication skills. Get one that focus' on skills. There is a way to get more of your needs met everyday. The good news is you can have what you want. You just need to realize how your choices create the outcomes you have currently. Once you begin using positive, effective tools you'll watch your life soar.
