Because it is the one layer of our bodies that people see, having healthy skin is very important. Many people turn to skin care products in order to have healthy and youthful looking skin. Selenium - Selenium can be an important ingredient in skin care products as this antioxidant mineral makes the skin have more elasticity. Selenium will also help prevent skin cell damage with free radicals. Selenium can prevent skin cancer because it protects the skin from the damaging effects of ultraviolet light.

Vitamin C is important as it reduces free radical damage from too much exposure to the sun or unhealthy air. The reduction of free radical damage is important in the skin as they consume both collagen and elastin, which are fibers that support the structure of the skin. Free radicals can also cause wrinkles in the skin. Many skin care products have Vitamin C but you can also get this vitamin from supplements and various foods. When Vitamin C is combined with Vitamin D it is will protect your skin from overexposure to ultraviolet rays produced by the sun.

Vitamin E is another an antioxidant that helps protect the skin form the sun's damaging ultra violet rays. A combination of Vitamin E and Vitamin A skin care products are very good at preventing various types of skin cancer. Vitamin E also helps with wrinkles and other signs of premature aging in the skin.

The promotion of skin repair and maintenance is how Vitamin A can help your skin. If you have a dry or flaky complexion you should look for skin care products that have Vitamin A as it can help with these skin problems. Vitamin A also helps reduce acne and other skin problems.

EFA's are in many oil based skin care products, such as primrose oil or fish oil capsules. By keeping a balanced Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids intake you can maintain a healthier looking skin. EPA's also have other health benefits besides keeping skin looking good, such as treating various diseases like heart disease and cancer.

These are a few of the most important ingredients in skin care products. If you have any skin problems, there are skin care products that can help you with those specific problems. Many of the ingredients listed above can also be found in supplements and various foods. The next time you are buying skin care products, look for the ingredients list and see if they have any of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants listed above. If they do, you know that your skin will be benefiting by the skin care product.
