Lights, Cameras, Action Author: Lauren Shumbat /D.B.A. Amy Hunter
I had to ask myself often, what college or school will refund your tuition when you complete the course? What College or Technical training class gives you thousands of dollars of bonus training tools and information rather you do it or not? These questions do not get asked so, I am asking the questions. I am also taking the challenge, knowing if I do not apply everything I am learning, like 95% of all small business ventures, I will fold. This can be a very daunting thought, but the harder the question the better the chance is that I will succeed. Why, you ask; because you do not have the competition. I was raised by a middle-aged mother and father. They were both married before and I had step brothers and sisters older than me but most of my nieces and nephews were either younger than me or the same age. My father thought of me as his only child who caused problems throughout my life with communicating and being close to my family. As a spoiled and precocious child I was given a free rein to do what I wanted to do. It was always forgiven or they covered it up. Being on the wild rambunctious side, I would step into unknown waters often. I usually could get out of it with my parents help but that didn’t help make life easier. As a teen I wanted to do everything that didn’t take much work. That included school, dating, driving, and of course working. From the age of 15 through 30, I was raped at 16, married 3 times, physically abused, and employed as a waitress, factory worker in a braid factory, a bank teller and safe deposit keeper. I was no longer trying to just find the easy path. When I was 32, I met my soul mate and best friend when I started having physical problems with walking and numbness so I had to see many doctors. They could not find anything wrong so they would discharge me saying “you are health”. In 1982 after extensive examinations and vacations to relieve stress, which I never remember feeling. My soon to be husband said he loved me. So we married in 1982 and a few years later we movedfor employment purposes. Here I worked in a bank and I took a real-estate course and became a Realtor. We moved back to Williamsport in 1986, to be closer to family and to start a business. Now in 1990, I started to have some major problems walking and holding items but it would come and go. I was not able to walk well. My husband and I went to another hospital recommended by my physician, to be tested. In 1992, after many tests, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This diagnosis should have scared me, but not knowing anything about MS, I just felt relieved to finally have an answer. Most of the time I felt I was at the top of my game, but I very foolishly told a prospetive employer I had MS. For the first time ever, I was denied the job. This really crushed me and I am sure you know what that feels like. The next job I applied for was in another local bank and I was hired, but being honest to a fault, before I left the office I told the manager, I was recently diagnosed with MS. I looked fine, talked fine, walked fine, and could not be discriminated against so he gave me a time and day to begin my employment.
My relapsing remitting form of MS forced me to use a cane for safety. I had learned the hard way to work with my MonSter rather than fighting again it. Perhaps that made you question me? Now this is my perception and a way of dealing with my disease. MS is a disease that I have, but it does not have me. This positive way to confront the MonSter is a way to not deny the disease but to confront it and know how far I can work or anything that will cause problems. I cannot drive anymore and I use a cane and scooter instead of walking which conserves energy. I also found a business I can do from home and I want to earn enough money so I do not have to be on SSDI. I do not want the government to do for me but it is wonderful to have the programs people need when they are not able to work Even though I can earn a good living from home, I have relapsed into secondary progressive MS which may cripple me but not before I prove to myself I can do it. If you are interested in viewing my current websites please go to http://www.mywebcashstore.com/schunbat3982 And http://www.24hourwebcash.com/schunbat3982 soon there will be other Websites and I am so excited to be doing something more than whining and collecting government checks. Thank you for allowing me your time. Lauren
