If North Carolina was known for nothing else other than its rich history it would still be well worth visiting and the fantastic thing is that North Carolina actually has an abundance of activities, culture, and scenery that make the trip even more worth while. Here you can climb to the top of a spectacular mountain or relax by the seaside and watch the waves come in or you can paddle down a river with a fishing pole. There is so much to do here because no matter what season it is North Carolina will be sure to offer up some of the best times you have ever experienced.
Winters in North Carolina bring an array of snow sports, outdoor festivals, and history based educational opportunities for the whole family. Fort Macon State Park on the Atlantic Ocean offers visitors a glimpse into the past during the winter months with tours of the reconstructed Civil War fort that stands guard over the renowned Beaufort Harbor. Winter sports are abounding in North Carolina as well. With mountain peaks reaching extraordinary heights such as Mount Mitchell which boasts an amazing 6,684 feet, there is always the option to enjoy world class skiing and snow boarding during the winter months as well.
The weather in North Carolina is a reason to visit North Carolina in and of itself. The state boasts mild temperatures throughout the year with the average summer temperature a mild 77 degrees and the average winter temperature a comfortable 42 degrees. Visitors to North Carolina are sure to arrive on a sunny day too because the state has the good fortune to enjoy approximately 210 days of sunshine each year. As I'm sure you can imagine with sunshine like that there are a wide variety of activities to enjoy during the milder seasons of the year. A visit to Hammocks Beach State Park in the spring, summer, or fall will give visitors an adventurous ride to Bear Island where they can have the opportunity to view dolphins and other sea life before reaching the island. Alone the coast of North Carolina visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most magnificent scenery on the East Coast. Here you will find the tallest sand dune this side of the Atlantic at Jockey Ridge, the Outer Banks barrier islands that are known so well to the area, and the tallest brick lighthouse in the nation, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. And if that isn't enough summer fun in North Carolina you can always visit Wilmington, the state's major seaport, or take a walk down the path of history Kitty Hawk where the Wright Brothers flew the first aircraft in 1903.
Regardless of what you and your family are looking for in a vacation North Carolina is likely to have it. With its mild seasonal temperatures, its contrast between mountains and coastline, its rich history, and cultural diversity North Carolina as become one of the most popular vacation destinations for couple and families alike.
