In 1981 Roberts founded the City of Faith Medical and Research Center, the largest health facility of its kind in the world, in order to merge the healing streams of prayer and medicine as God had revealed it to him. The City of Faith was in operation for eight years and closed in late 1989, having revolutionized the medical world’s concept of primary patient care and the importance of treating the whole person—spirit, mind, and body.
"But when he Jesus saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his followers, The harvest really is plenteous, but the labourers are few. -Matthew 9:36-37 "
The line of folks waiting to see the doctors ran all the way down the street. The sun beat down on them, making them sweat in the 90-degree heat, but they did not care. They wanted help. One tired girl gripped the ticket-numbered 394-that would allow her into the medical clinic when it was her turn.
When she saw Dr. Jose Coto appear from the medical tent, she flagged him down to ask, "How many folks will you see today?" Dr. Coto smiled, and with compassion answered her with "todo"-the Spanish word for all.Just as Jesus never turned anybody away who came to Him for a miracle, this medical hospital would not turn anybody away, either. The woman sighed in relief. And a little bit of Jesus came alive to her in that moment.
This past Apr, Richard Roberts, his girl Jordan, associate evangelist Adrian Compton, and a gang of doctors, nurses, and others visited Nicaragua to share the message that God still saves, heals, and delivers folks today, just as He did in Bible days. Their mission: to bring the living Jesus to folks of all ages, social positions, and economic conditions. One of forty countries that God has called Richard Roberts to reach, Nicaragua is the biggest Central American country, approximately the dimensions of New York.
With coastal beaches, tropical lowlands, mountainous highlands, and volcanic regions, Nicaragua is a country of great beauty. But it's also a country of great need. Over 46 p.c of Nicaragua's almost 5.9 million folks are underemployed. They have roles, but frequently can't work enough hours or earn enough pay to support themselves. Approximately 32 percent cannot read or write. The country is subject to quakes, one of which annihilated the middle of Managua, the capital town, in 1972. Many Nicaraguans also face serious infectious sicknesses, for example typhoid fever, HIV, dengue fever, hepatitis, malaria, and parasitic infections.
