In this day and age of the computer, there's no reason why anyone should be alone. Even if you are mobility impaired, the computer opens up the entire world to you. If you can't see well, you can increase the font size of your screen so that you can read practically any text. Many websites also have sound cards available so you can hear the text, even if you can't see it.
Any topic that you would like to learn about, or even talk about can be done on the web. For the young or even the elderly, there are many on-line resources to information for whatever you want to learn about or even talk about. Some websites allow you to discuss with others your own experiences and knowledge on certain subjects.
ONLINE WEB MAGAZINES
Senior Journal is an excellent online publication, which I highly recommend. Once there, you can also sign up for their free newsletter.
Seniorcitizensmagazine.com is an online magazine. It is now called Finally! A Magazine for Me, but it also has lots of interesting articles on a wide variety of topics of interest to everyone but in particular seniors.
Of course, just because you're a senior citizen doesn't mean you have to confine yourself to message boards and websites that are just dedicated to the over-50s. There are plenty of message boards and newsgroups that talk about specific subjects - knitting, kite flying, model building, old time radio, military history, history, science, and so on, and no one cares how old you are. Indeed, people of all ages share their knowledge here - and will welcome anyone with experience and knowledge!
Google Groups is the group browser that I use most often to find all kinds of groups. Unfortunately, with these types of groups, there is no moderation, and so troublemakers and bullies can abound. It's always best to find website forums that have moderators, as they prevent such behavior.
