There is no quick pill to building Self Esteem. Its a gradual process that needs time and effort but you will see excellent results in the long run.
Developing your self esteem is nothing more than reconditioning the existing picture you have of yourself and replace it with a brighter and happy self. It is that simple. But many people fail to grasp its simplicity and tend to disregard simple things they can do to develop their self image.
Here are a few tried and tested techniques to Improve Your Self Esteem.
A. Accept your Limitations
All too often we all brood about things that are not under our control. The key to a better self image is to do what is under your control and stop being responsible for things beyond our control. Yes you need to empathize with the sorrow of others. It is humane and noble. But stop beating yourself about things where you don't have any control.
B: Develop a clear mental Picture of success.
Visualizing a desired outcome is an powerful way of building your self esteem. Almost all top athletes and sportsmen visualize success. This helps them condition themselves to succeed in the real world.
C: Watch what you say to yourself
Self talk can make or break your self image. It is nothing but you, talking to yourself about "you". And what you say about yourself has a huge impact on how you feel about yourself. In any case, the foremost step is to become aware of what you say in this self talk. Surprisingly most people beat themselves up in the self talk.
Any guesses why they have a low self esteem? Well its simple. When you are not willing to be the best and encouraging friend for yourself, how can you accept others to be so?
Notice how you speak to yourself and if it is negative, stop dead on your track and willfully change that thought. This will be hard and takes time but yields the best results and thus worth the attempt.
Instead of telling yourself "You screwed up that last test", try telling "you could have done better in that test and here is how...."
Here is the funny part... it does not matter what you put after the here is how... This works and works wonders because instead of ending the conversation on a negative note you are redirecting your brain to search for ways to improve. Can you imagine what message you're sending to your unconscious mind by doing this?
There are many methods and techniques to build you self esteem. The most important factor in your success however is not the technique that you use but the attitude with which you approach the idea of building a better self esteem.
Recognition of the problem is all but the first step what you do next is what will determine how successful you will be in your life. If you put it away for a better time you are sending a message that you are worthy of all that attention.
