It can be difficult to find all of the answers in managing your phobias. The best way to overcome your persistent fears is to find those coping skills that effectively manage the fear and anxiety.
The first step is to take advantage of the help that is available around you. If possible, talk to a professional who can help you manage your fears and anxieties. They will be able to provide you with additional advice and insights on how to deal with your current problem. By talking to a professional, a person will be helping themselves in the long run because they will become better able to deal with their problems in the future.
It does not stop there. The next step is to apply what you have learned. Make it a point that every time you experience a fearful or anxiety related situation, use the information you have learned. In every anxiety related situation you experience, begin to learn what works, what does not work and what you need to do to improve on your anxiety management skills.
Continue to do more research to learn of even more effective techniques in managing fear and anxiety. Remember to focus on the strategies and techniques that actually reduce the fear and anxiety. All it takes is one effective technique to make a world of difference in managing your fears.
As for some of the skills that manage fear, learn to challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or depressed, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense.
Sometimes, a person may encounter a lot of scary thoughts coming at them all at once. Instead of getting upset, remember that these thoughts are exaggerated and are not based on reality. Usually it is the fear behind the thoughts that gets us worked up. Ignore the fear behind these thoughts, regardless how the strong the fear may be. If you ignore the fear behind these thoughts, then the thoughts become easier to manage.
Learn to take it one day at a time. Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or coming month, try to focus on today. Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems. Focus on the present and stop trying to predict what may happen next week. Next week will take care of itself.
Remember that alcohol and substance abuse or any other addictions will not take away your problems and fears. In the short run, they might make you feel better, but in the long run these addictions will only make things worse.
The main point of this article is that no matter how difficult it is to manage your fear, the answers are out there if you look hard enough. It might take some hard work and persistence, but it is possible to find those techniques that work for you.

Dealing with depression after my sister moved abroad

Dealing with depression after my sister moved abroad
Hi. Well, my older sister got married and moved abroad earlier this year. I must say I feel depressed. She was my best friend, and the closest. My parent's don't provide much of a happy environment, so we became really close. I think that we became too close (or I to that effect). To put it this way: I majored on her same field without even liking it, and now I'm regretting it a lot. Anyhow, it was only after she announced she was marrying her fiancé and moving abroad for good, that I realized just how attached I was to her (or dependent on her emotionally). She was the only person I could tell her how I felt and understand it. We did lots of things together since we both have pretty similar taste on movies, music, clothes, TV series, books, etc. The thing is, although I realized she has the right to live her life the way she feels like it, I can't stop feeling a little resentful and abandoned. And I know I should be happy for her.The worst part is that I can't just sit and chat with her or call her. It makes it even worse, it reminds me of how things have changed and it isn't the same, no matter how hard I try. The level of closeness is not the same for me, but she just expects me to call her all the time (or be available at MSN) like nothing has changed. There are things too complicated to talk over the phone. I'm tired. I don't know how to overcome this. I feel guilty, but the truth I guess is that it will never be the same; even if she believes it has to be (she kind of reproaches me for not calling her as often as she does, even if I do call her at least once a week). It?s almost as if I needed our friendship to cold a bit in order to feel free. To break that bond and start a new one, not so close as the one before. She doesn?t get that at all. She has her husband, so she has never felt what it is like to be on one?s own emotionally speaking.
What can I do to feel better? Is there steps to take?
I truly hope you can answer this, I'm actually seeking counseling for the second time now. Than you so very much in advance.

What is wrong with me?
By: Cat | 12-10-2008
I have several problems: I have Body Image Disorder I suffer from severe anxiety I was bullimc for three years and used pseudo ephedrine, abused laxatives and over exercised during that period, then i was admitted into a psciatric hospital for a month to "kick" my addiction. When i got out i used other drugs. I've been clean a year now, i don't throw up anymore, but i also suffer from Major Depressive disorder. I cut myself, pull my hair out when i get anxious, my moods are up and down. I have thoughts of people killing me, of me being raped etc etc. I also have very viloent disturbing dreams, as well as night terorrs. I think it stems from a my child hood, i was physically abused by my father. I've been taking sleeping tablets for years as i have never had a regular sleeping pattern and i cant sleep without them. I know im addicted to them simply because when i take it i get a "high" and that is wheni feel im at mu happiest. What is wrong with me? Am i insane?
