The Benefits Of Organization

"Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." -Albert Einstein

I did something very interesting and almost enjoyable over the weekend. It's enjoyable for me today, but in retrospect, it was kind of a difficult process. I did a major fall cleaning of my whole office and got everything reorganized and put together nicely. It actually reminded me for some strange reason of my childhood and it reminded me of a lot of things that I haven't done which I would like to do. I would say it was kind of a difficult process in terms of action and motivation, but sitting in a much more organized office today is definitely worth the effort.

If for any reason you haven't done an office (or basement, or attic, or automobile) reorganization in a very long time you might just look at what this might do to help you. If you'll open yourself up to it, you can allow that process to also be a process for your life. What is it that you want to do with your life and how do you want to get there?

The world seems to be on fast forward. Work, family, things (books, electronics, other things we accumulate), can often overwhelm us. Having a lot on my plate is partially responsible for my office not being as organized as I would have liked for it to be all this time.

When we have so many things to focus on, it's almost impossible to stay organized (especially not having an 'on site' assistant). We spread ourselves too thin with only passing attention and focus on any number of things. Our ability to focus is hindered detracting attention from some of the necessary, important things in life.

One strategy to help us focus involves the universe system. The goal is to be more of a quarterly review of the universes and a daily review of the really important points that we're working on right now and to make that kind of easy to do along with a daily session that would allow us to focus more powerfully too.

Start with small steps: clean out the trunk of your car or clear out one closet or one drawer a time of your desk. Maybe you'll get a big bag of old clothes you don't wear anymore which you can donate. Or collect a box of books you'll never read again and sell them or donate them to a library. I have a local café which has walls lined with books for the patrons to borrow, read and return-an honor system lending library. I recently dropped off a box of old books and have a gift certificate for free lunch.

You will be amazed at the lightness you feel as a result of a clean sweep.

When we achieve clarity, amazing results abound. With systematic organization of our work spaces, our lives, our thought processes, we can have breakthrough after breakthrough in our ability to grow and persuade.
