One of the few things we can control entirely is our attitude. Each of us has the freedom to chose how we see the world and the daily challenges life presents. To choose how we respond to people and events. You can view life as a series of struggles, or a series of miracles. Every day, every moment, you choose.
If you choose to have a positive mental attitude, you will be a happier person. Obviously, being happy is a good thing.
But, does being happy help you in your efforts to grow a successful work from home business? Yes.
Jim Rohn teaches, "Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job." Why? Because if you are a better person, you will develop a better business. There are three reasons for this.
First, happy people are more productive. Think about it. When you are sad, depressed, angry, upset, feeling negative, it sucks up all of your energy.
If you are in a "bad mood" about something, it effects the way you react to everything. When I start feeling negative, I can see it in the way that I react to my kids. I find myself getting angry at something that would normally just make me shake my head and laugh.
Likewise, if you are constantly seeing life as a struggle, it interferes with your ability to work on your business. You get too distracted by your "problems." It will take you longer to accomplish your task, and the quality of your work will suffer.
Your unhappiness in effect becomes a person standing over your shoulder, trying to tell you her problems while you try to create a new blog post for your readers.
Second, having a positive mental attitude will make positive things happen in your life. Earl Nightingale tells us, "we become what we think about most of the time."
You can probably see this in your own life. If you think about being in debt all the time, you'll never get out of debt. If you think about being overweight all the time, you will never achieve your desired weight. And if you think that it's hard to make money online, you will never make much money online, despite your efforts.
Most of us know somebody who seems to be "lucky." Things always go right for her. We also know somebody who appears to be "unlucky." She always has a story about the one thing that happened just when she thought it couldn't get any worse.
Neither person's plight, however, is determined by luck. Spend some time observing how the "lucky" person talks about life and reacts to challenges. Likewise, observe how the "unlucky" person talks and reacts. You'll quickly find the answer as to why one is "lucky" and one is "unlucky."
A positive mental attitude isn't enough, in and of itself, to propel you to success. But such an attitude, accompanied by the productive action discussed above, is the formula for online business success.
The third reason you need to work on your personal development is because when you are happy, people want to work with you. Pretty simple. Who do you want to be around — someone who always sees the positive in her business, or someone who's always complaining about how hard it is to make money working from home?
Working with others — as partners, as affiliates, in joint ventures — is one of the easiest and fastest ways to grow your business. If you are a person with a lot of positive energy, people will like the way they feel around you and will want to work with you.
The lesson here is that you must resist the urge to view your personal growth as an optional activity. As something only the "weak" or "newbies" need to achieve success.
You may be a hardcore marketing ninja. Maybe you've never shed a tear in your life. You are a tough as nails serious entrepreneur on a mission. Doesn't matter. No one's too cool for personal development. Your business success will be faster and greater if you get to work on making yourself a positive, happy person.
