Politicians and sales persons are particularly good at one of the techniques called pacing and leading. ‘Pacing’ consists in telling the individual or groups of people three statements that are incontestable or in other words the absolute truth for them. Once this phase has been completed the ‘leading’ statement is introduced which is the outcome that you want them to realise or believe. After that you do two ‘pacings’ and two ‘leadings’ and then one ‘pacing’ and three ‘leadings’. Of course you have to use different wordings to say the same thing in a way the individual or groups don’t realise what is going on. This is very effective and was used in all of Barack Obama’s speeches according to experts. Indeed all his speeches were very powerful and the results led him to a victory that will go down in history for reasons we all know. Due to an infection that paralysed him from the waist down, he had enough time to observe people and see the non verbal language and how important it was.
