Developing Self-belief

President Obama in his speech entitled, "The closing argument", one week before the presidential election, said something really fascinating but could easily fly over the heads of many. The then US Democratic candidate said, "I ask you to believe, not just in my ability to bring about change, but in yours." He unveiled a profound secret of success right there.

Insofar as we believe in our leaders, mentors, and teachers, we ought to develop a belief in ourselves. Before you ask for others to believe in your abilities, start by believing in yourself. Once you develop a strong belief in yourself and your abilities, as certain as rain must fall when two clouds collide, others will believe in you as well.

It is always sickening to see some people commanding large followings but are engaged in despicable acts. They attract huge followings mainly because they believe in themselves and what they have to offer. Those who have the real substance are in hiding and shying away because they do not believe in themselves. You must believe in yourself and your gifts because people will always take you at your own estimate. That which you possess is what the world is looking for and you have the capability to add value to the world. This is not to prop up humbug or to feed egotism; you are more mature than that. It is a mere statement of truth since no individual was created without a special purpose or assignment!

Dr Myles Munroe said that the richest place this world has ever produced is the graveyard. Many people have gone to their graves with unrealised potential waiting for the opportune moment to implement their ideas. Since none of us has a contract to live on this planet forever it would be a good idea to search for our abilities and talents and execute them.

This world is crying for some form of uniqueness. We are all tired of the mundane stuff going around. New and better ideas are hiding somewhere, in some girl, boy, man and woman who do not have faith in their abilities. We have witnessed new musicians coming up with unique styles, excelling in their careers. A new politician recently came on the scene riding upon the crest of popularity advocating, "Change we can believe in." Oblivious of his skin colour and strong African roots the guy has made it. Why? He believed in himself and what he could offer, consequently voters could not resist generosity with their votes.

More often that not, when you share a new and somewhat strange idea, people are prone to laugh in contempt as to absurd fancies of an unbalanced mind. That should not drive the lustre from your eye. You might merely need to reconsider the people with whom you share your visions and dreams. Choose someone with whom you are on the same wavelength. For, it is those things that are not yet seen which this world is yearning for.

Rid yourself of the poor-worm-in-the-dust mentality. Convince yourself that one day it can be you attaining a place on the muster roll of the great ones of the world, like Dr Martin Luther King Jr said, "... I would see Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Euripides and Aristophanes assembled around the Parthenon. And I would watch them around the Parthenon as they discussed the great and eternal issues of reality."Â?

What is your idea? Go ahead and work it, feel it, believe in it and in your ability and capacity for execution and one day you will be glad you did.
