Psychological Insight - Stress vs Insanity
By: v12noob | 11-09-2008
Hello there.I'm struggling with something right now that I can't discuss with anyone I know. I'm not sure why, but it's an issue that has grown to the extent that it interferes with my everyday life. My interactions with people, my ability to retain information in class, my mindset. It's difficult to explain, especially because I don't know what's causing it. Sometimes when you've slept for much longer than normal, do you feel like there is a "haze" between you and the world? The kind that makes you squint your eyes when you aren't sure how to interpret something? Because this is what I feel like, except this "haze" is ten times thicker. I've always considered myself as a logical person, thinking about things in terms of reason and fact. I'm studying Computer Engineering right now; I like it, but these past three days have begun to take their toll on my outlook. I've gone to class and taken notes, but I haven't absorbed much at all. Even after sitting for hours and trying to study some of the material, I find myself reading, re-reading, and re-reading again before I even recognize what the topic is. It's a struggle that I've never encountered before. I don't know how to deal with it. When interacting socially, I feel hesitant to contribute. I think "anxious" would be an accurate term for the way I'm feeling. Anxious in every setting; at lunch, in class, walking to class with friends, walking without friends, and even just sitting at my computer. It's a constant battle with my mind. Over these past three days, I've tried to convince myself that it's only stress, and my mind is simply amplifying all of the things in my life that I worry about. I try to tell myself to think logically and concentrate, but at this point I feel like that's just as effective as telling a blind person to look harder. I think this began over the weekend, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm trying to think back and remember when I first started feeling like this, but I can't recall anything concrete. One thing that has definitely changed is my memory. I'll be talking to someone and some things just go in one ear and out the other. I wish I could control it, but I find myself thinking about things that distract me from the current activity. I've considered the possibility of ADD, but from what I understand, that disorder doesn't just "appear" in someone's life all of the sudden. I couldn't remember what I did a couple days ago between one class and the other; everything just seems so vague. There are many more specific problems that are keeping me worried, but to sum it all up, I'm feeling extreme anxiety, and sometimes paranoia. Over the summer, I tried LSD for the first time, and it was fine. I barely felt the effects, but the world did seem "glowy" during the "trip". I've smoked marijuana before, but not recently. I hope this "phase" will pass. Any advice or information you provide would be great. Thank you so much for your time.
