Arab Israeli conflict has its root even in the end of the 19th century. However, it becomes an international issue only after the birth of Israel in the year 1948. The Arab Israeli conflicts became the source of two Palestinian uprisings.
The development of the Zionist ideology in the 1880s increased the emigration of European Jews. The clash between the Jews and Arabs started in this period. The Jewish communities began to acquire lands from the Ottoman Sultan and other Arab landowners. The Arab Palestinians lived on those lands at that time. This resulted in Arab Israeli conflict 1880.
The Palestine mandate or the British mandate for Palestine was drafted and formally approved by the league of Nations in the year 1922. This mandate stated that the United Kingdom supported the establishment of separate Jewish national home in Palestine. This elevated the pressure among the Arabs, who lived in the Mandate Palestine. The problem became severe, when the Peel Commission, which was a British Royal Commission of inquiry, established in 1936. Peel commission divided the Jews. Jews refused to accept it in the beginning. Eventually, they accepted the partition. However, the Arabs rejected it and they demanded to put an end to Jews immigration. They claimed that Palestine was an Arab state. This in turn led to the Arab Israeli conflict 1947.
Arab Israeli conflict 1948 is referred to as the “Israeli war of independence” by the Jews and it is described as “Al-nakba”, the disaster by the Arabs. Prior to the war, the UN Partition plan 1947 suggested that the establishment of Arab and Jewish states in Palestine would end up the wars. Though Jews had accepted the plan, the Arabs refused to accept it. In the middle of 1948, the United States recommended to get a temporary UN approved trusteeship. US Believed that it would be better to go for temporary solution rather than seeking immediate partition. However, the Jewish leaders were not ready to accept it. Meanwhile, the Arabs and the Jewish established their own military to maintain control over their territory. The Arab Israeli conflict war thus started to emerge in the year 1948.
Arab Israeli conflict 1948 ended after the declaration of the State of Israel. Approximately two thirds of the Arabs were expelled from the territories, which came under the control of the Jewish. It was estimated that nearly 711,000 Arabs became refugees after the war.
Arabs saw a rise during the period of 1956, when the United Arab Republic was founded. Nasserism, an Arab Nationalist political ideology became a powerful force throughout the Arab countries. This ideology was based on the thoughts of the former Egyptian President Gamal Nasser. Arab Israeli conflict 1956 resulted in the United Arab republic.
Arab Israeli conflict 1967 was caused due to an erroneous information given by the Soviet Intelligence services to Nasser that Israel was gathering the troops near the Israeli-Syrian border. This led to a six-day war. The Israeli army had a potential strength and they destroyed the entire Egyptian force. Arab Israeli conflict wars do not come to an end even in this 21st century.
