How to Get What You Want Out of Life

Copyright (c) 2009 Willie Horton

There's a title for an article! And, in this article, you will find simple instructions on how to set your subconscious mind to create the life your heart desires. But that, in itself, is a loaded statement - how do you know what your heart desires? How, living as a normal person, surrounded by normal people - all of whom have an upsettingly limited perspective on how they could live the life their hearts desire, would you know what is best for you - or how far outside the normal box could you really go?

So, what follows comes with a caveat - you need to be careful what you set your mind to achieve - because, done correctly, it will come pass. That is why I advise my clients to be very non-specific about the detail of what they want to achieve and, in particular, how they are going to achieve it. First of all, if you're too specific about what you want, you immediately close off all other options - many of which could be better for you. A long-standing client springs to mind on this issue - he had his heart set on a particular management position and, on the day he got the golden job, he called me and said "I've climbed to the top of the hill. Not only do I not like the view - I think I climbed the wrong hill!" So that's the first word of warning.

Secondly, don't imagine that you could know, from your normal limited perspective, how you are going to achieve your desired outcome. You're normal, how would you know!! Surely, if you stop to reflect for a moment, the best things that have happened in your life weren't achieved through meticulous planning - the really good things just happen - let them.

So, there are the ground rules - be non-specific about the detail of what you want to achieve and completely non-specific about how you got there. Sounds like you're going to clutch at straws, doesn't it. But nothing could be wider of the mark. Because, in order to set your subconscious mind to achieve your desired outcome, you're going to extraordinarily specific in describing to yourself what it feels like to "have arrived" - to have it all (whatever all might be). You're going to give your subconscious mind a detailed three-dimensional, five-sensory picture that will become, like all the other pictures your subconscious mind stores, one of your beliefs.

This is the "mental technology" on which our "strategy" is based. Your subconscious creates your current life based on the subconscious pictures it's watching. Give it a new, bright and exciting picture, one that will grab its attention, and it will set about creating that new life. This may sound too simple - but there are decades of research which prove what I'm saying - from the fields of psychology and particle physics.

Next, you need to decide on what would be, for you, a Perfect Moment - a snapshot of time and place where you have "arrived" at a peak moment of bliss, of effortless achievement - one where you are completely carefree and at peace. You need to decide what that moment would look like - what you might see, who you might be with; what it would sound like - what noises, sounds, laughter would you hear; what it would feel like - the physical feelings of warmth or cold, exhilaration, the emotional feelings within; what it would smell like - the smell of food, of scented pine trees, of salty see air; and what it would taste like - the bubbles of wine or beer on the tongue (or whatever turns you on!).

When you have decided upon your mix of ingredients - what your perfect moment would look, sound, feel, smell and taste like - you then write down the whole "experience" in flowing prose - describing what it's like to be there, to have it all, to have arrived. This must be handwritten - decades of research prove that handwriting impresses the subconscious mind - and it must be handwritten using the present tense only - as if you are already there, fully experiencing your Perfect Moment - now.

When you've done that - leave it. Having handwritten your Perfect Moment, your subconscious mind will get to work on bringing it about. After that, the only thing that can stop it happening in you. Yes, we all second guess our hopes and dreams - we all wonder why what we want isn't falling into place. We wonder when or if something good will ever happen. We start entertaining useless thoughts that lead us to doubt ourselves, doubt our abilities and believe that the "system" isn't working in our favour. All this internal nonsense is what has normal people where they are - "not too bad". Not only is not too bad not good enough - that attitude will cloud your subconscious and it will revert to looking at the old photographs of how you think the world really works.

You've got to clear your head - become an extraordinarily focused person. But the mistake many people make is that they keep focusing on their goal. That's not how it works - you need to focus on the only time and place that, in reality, actually exists. Here and now. So, to give your subconscious free rein to bring about your Perfect Moment, use those same five senses, that you used to write your Moment, to focus on now - and let the good things simply happen.

How You Are Who You Are

By: Willie Horton | 15/10/2009 | Self Improvement
We are victims of our upbringing because our formative years formed our frame of reference for our view of what's possible or not possible and our strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, our early years are the subconscious basis for our adult behaviour. Our subconscious pays attention to that past, rather than the present moment, so we miss what's really going on now - we miss out on life's opportunities that could be staring us in the face.
