The most important person in your life is you. You are the only one that knows your thoughts and feelings all the time. You are the one that you can count on in good or bad times. So it is very important to make sure that you are well taken care of at all times. If you get so caught up in taking care of others, you won’t be able to take care of you. You will be so busy giving that your physical and emotional self will suffer.

Instead, you must focus on your needs first. By putting your needs before the needs of others, you’ll demonstrate that you are important and that you matter. By putting you first, you will feel less stressed and frustrated. You will feel powerful and strong and, in turn, you will have more to give. For instance, let’s take the case of Mary, a single mom. When Mary had her son, she spent every waking moment taking care of him and pushed her own needs aside. She often tried to get her chores done while he slept and would then take care of him when he was awake. She wanted to be a super mom. However, she soon got sick from wearing herself out. She felt sleep deprived, crabby and started having headaches, muscle spasms and unrelenting fatigue. By not taking care of her own needs first, her health suffered.

Mary thought she was doing the right thing and ignored her body’s need for attention. She sought the advice of a wise physician who listened to her symptoms and ordered her to de-stress her life. Once a week, she did something for herself. She pampered herself and stopped focusing primarily on her son’s needs. Now, Mary is a strong and vibrant woman. She provides for her son, but she takes care of her needs first. As a result, both she and her son are thriving.

In conclusion, learn from Mary. Focus on you right now and take care of you – the most important person in your life. By doing this, you’ll feel better physically and emotionally and you’ll be able to accomplish so much more. You’ll find your zest and significantly improve your life

By: Sharon Capehart | 19/02/2008 | Self Improvement
I’d like to start by asking a real simple question. How many of you truly love what you do for a career? Does it excite you, does it motivate you, or does it inspire you to do the best you can? I wish all of you could respond with a ‘Yes’ but I know that isn’t the case. True success comes from following your true passions and allowing them to become what defines what you do.
