Improve Your Concentration By Getting In The Zone

There are many of us that would like to improve our concentration in one way or another - both for ourselves and our learning children. If we could only concentrate fully on tasks regardless of how much or how little interest they held for us, our quality of work and learning ability would improve vastly. At the same time, our children seem to be affected by a lack of concentration at times as well - after all, that is nothing new; all students daydream from time to time and get distracted from their work, rather than staying focused on the lessons at hand. Imagine if they did not do this, though - just imagine what could be accomplished, and in how short a time!

Can you imagine how much time must be lost every year because of poor concentration? In extreme cases, of course, children (and some adults) are medicated for ADD or ADHD and other conditions that impair concentration. Most of us are considered 'normal' with regard to our concentration level, though, and we know from personal experience that 'normal' still leaves a lot of room for improvement!

If you can agree that the quality of your work and other areas of your life, and those of your children and family, would be improved if you could only find a way to improve concentration, then read on. The problem that most of us experience with regard to concentration is that we are distracted by a million little other things on an almost constant basis. For example, even small problems have a way of intruding, as does physical discomfort. When you have not had enough sleep or ample rest, or you are distracted by a personal problem, it is amost impossible to concentrate and maintain concentration for lengths of time. What can you do to improve your concentration under these circumstances?

In some cases, the best thing to do might be to just give in to your current state of distraction and stop what you are doing, and pursue your work at a later time. When we choose the optimal time and at a time when we really 'want' to do a certain job, we are what is known as 'in the zone', so to speak. Our concentration is enhanced and entirely fixed upon the task at hand and everything goes well. Work done while you are 'in the zone' is often of much higher quality than work that is done at other random times.

This state of being can not always just be called upon at will, however. Sometimes, we just have to wait for it - and deal with our other problems first. The key seems to be in the timing of the work, and being sure to get enough rest in the meantime. When the time is right to do a certain job, it is almost guaranteed to go smoothly because your concentration is optimal. Take full advantage of this 'in the zone' feeling to get work done fast, smoothly and effectively.
