I recently went to a self improvement workshop in Los Angeles, California, which was one of the most insightful and enlightening experiences that I've ever had.On the very first day I was partnered with a 50 year old woman named Diana. Our challenge was to climb a 60-foot tall rope ladder, working as a pair. We were connected at the hip with a four-foot long rope and each fitted with a body harness to catch us if we fell off the ladder during the climb.
At first glance I thought that I would be able to make the climb on my own, seeing that I'm pretty active and physically fit. When I realized that I would be partnered with Diana, the voice in my head started to buzz with disempowering thoughts like: ‘How the hell are we going to do this?' and ‘I hope Diana doesn't have a heart attack!' Well, seeing that the whole point here was for us to learn something about our own limitations as people, I made a choice to turn things around and take on this challenge head on and began to ask myself more supportive questions like: ‘How can I motivate and inspire Diana? What are our strengths as a team? ‘
Before starting our climb, I looked Diana in the eye and I said: ‘I believe in you, just give me your 100%'. At the beginning of the climb, things went pretty well and we eventually reached the first rung on the ladder. Then it started to get tougher. I was up on the second rung and Diana was still on the first rung and our connecting rope was stretched to full length. I heard someone yell to me from down below, ‘You've got to go down and help her up!' That was the first time I realized that even though I knew I could do the climb on my own, it wasn't just about me. It was about both of us making it to the top as a team. So I climbed back down to the first rung and bent down on my knees to support Diana and using all my strength, pushed her up to the second rung. The whole time we were doing this, the ladder was swinging back and forth with a 40-foot drop below us.
As soon as Diana got settled on the second rung I screamed up to her in support of this massive accomplishment. We were making the impossible possible.
Diana and I continued this way up the rope ladder until we reached the top and we gave each other a big hug - we were both exhausted but hugely delighted. After we got back down to the ground, Diana said to me: ‘I didn't think we were going to make it to the top.' I thought to myself, I didn't think we would do it either. It was at this moment I really understood what I learned from the exercise - that in fact this was not about climbing at all. I realized that in my entire life I had always done things for myself in order to feel that sense of achievement and purpose. When I heard Diana say those words to me it created an entire paradigm shift as I realized that it's very lonely at the top when you do things only for yourself. I learned that life is a lot more fulfilling when you take other people along for the climb. I now know I will never again feel lonely at the top.

What is Happiness?

What is Happiness? What is My Purpose in Life?
True happiness is living in the moment and loving the journey that is life. It’s choosing your own purpose by doing what you love. It’s bringing passion into everything you do, while living in the moment to gain a greater understanding of the present, the past and the future. It’s challenging ourselves to change by asking the questions that we would rather avoid then face. It’s finding beauty in the small things that only exist in the moment and providing service to awaken others inside. Happiness is not achieving a goal; it’s doing what you love and knowing the consequences of what you love are also a source of happiness. There is no greater good.
One common barrier to happiness is believing that achievements will make you happy. Achievements are shallow unless you are truly living in the moment and fully understanding that change is beautiful and expectations are an illusion that leads us to suffering. Many people skip from goal to goal hoping for their big break that will bring them happiness and they throw away all the precious moments in between. There will always be bigger goals and greater suffering if you believe that any achievement will make you happy.
Ask yourself the question; were you happier when you achieved something great or when you saw something so beautiful that it brought tears to your eyes? Were you happier when you got what you wanted or when you really took the time to connect with the person you love and the world stood still for a moment?
Relationship happiness comes from loving others by understanding and accepting them for who they are. This means thinking about the needs of others before thinking about yourself; it does not mean allowing others to cause you harm because they are unhappy.
People will not like you more for your successes; they will like you more for what you can do for them. Your spouse may be pleased that you succeed, but it will pass and the question “what are you going to do next” to get their approval might come up internally. You may even overlook what really makes you happy by living the same robotic path you take every day, and your spouse may miss the days when you first met. People who believe that achievement will bring them happiness often chase others who they believe could light the way for them. Nothing is ever good enough when you are addicted to success or believe that success will make you happy. This does not mean you have to be a hobo to be happy. It means that you do what you love and you are passionate about it enough to really focus and move people who are willing to share your vision. Living in the moment gives you a focus that is a competitive advantage in everything you do.
Only you can give yourself happiness; and only you can wake up inside and give yourself a new life.

What A Reunion
By: acappy | 03-07-2008
I am a single man and was at a reunion lasts week with people I used to hang out with back in the 70's. An old Girlfriend who also is single showed up and we were seeing one another after 37 years .When we met she didn't know who I was and when I said my last name she then wrapped her arms around me and said she was so embarrassed there were smiles all around . She said how great I look and suddenly said that she was mad at me . I said for what , she was mad because I called her a lesbian when she didn't let me break her cherry .I was in a state of numbness I said that I didn't say that to her and then thought that we both were virgins when we dated, she came back with saying that her old boy friend Terry was the one who broke her cherry . I really lost my train of thought for a moment I really didn't come back with to much of a reply seems we just both turned and went different ways I found out that she was with her boyfriend at the reunion. We didn't cross paths the entire evening .So what are your thoughts on this reunion.
This love is crazy
By: micheeeeeeeee | 03-07-2008
This summer I planned on being a counselor for bible camp. There I saw these 2 good looking guys 1 w/ blonde hair and blue eyes and the other a little uglier but more muscluar. I spent half of the week at bible camp swooning over the blondie, then I realized I liked the brown haired one, Matt. He comforted me when I saw the ambulance going towards my aunt's house during camp, and he sounded like he cared. He is a great guy and I was a counselor for his little sister who loves me! My friend says he is weird and not popular & has issues & his mom helps him with alot of stuff & he is stupid. I know he isn't the best looking guy, but isnt love not finding the perfect guy but seeing his imperfections perfectly? Im a believer in love at first sight, i just think that msot people don't see it at first. I can say I love him but i wont see him until next summer & its driving me crazy. he is a year older than me and i said bye to him but its just driving me crazy. HELP

How to Super Charge your Productivity

The biggest barrier to productivity is not a lack of time like most think. When you dig deep down to the core of the problem, a lack of productivity comes from a lack of integrity. Most people will say one thing and then do another. When you’re not integral to your word you create more work for yourself and that leads to a lack of productivity.
