The Google adwords pay per click program can be a very lucrative system of advertising. The advantage of adwords is that you only pay if a visitor clicks on your ad so you actually get visitors to your site versus banner advertising where the click through rates can be very poor. Also the visitors you receive can be very targeted however this is really dependant upon how you choose your keywords.

Keywords are a vital aspect of a successful pay per click campaign however the first step is to know what products you want to promote. Most people that want to make money online do not have a product of their own and if you fall into this category then consider looking into affiliate programs such as pay per lead programs that you can find at affiliate networks like Commission Junction or Linkshare.

Make sure that your products are in a niche that gets a lot of search engine visitors otherwise there is no point even starting at all. You can use free keyword tools like the Google keyword tool to get an idea of the amount of searches being done for the main keywords in your chosen niche.

When advertising with pay per click remember that you want quality visitors and not just a huge quantity of visitors. You are better off getting fewer clicks that actually convert into sales and make you a profit than getting a lot of clicks that do not convert. Make sure that you are taking advantage of the conversion tracking feature in your adwords account. All you need to do is add some code to your thank you pages to track which visitors buy based on the keywords they used.

This is vital information as it can literally make the difference between winning campaigns and losing ones. If you know a certain keyword is converting well then you should increase your bids as much as you can to grab as much traffic so you make the most profit. If you know certain keywords are not converting at all then either delete them or lower your bids.

When you create your ads in the adwords system it is important to make sure that they are highly relevant and not misleading. Remember that Google wants to give their visitors a good search experience so make sure your landing pages reflect the keywords and ad descriptions you select accurately. It is always best to create your own unique landing pages even if you are an affiliate. If you do choose affiliate promotion then consider doing an in depth review of the affiliate product or a selection of products in your niche.

Following the rules of the adwords system promotes a high account quality score which can then lead to lower ad costs and increased overall profits. It is also a good idea to always check up on your campaigns at least once every 3 to 4 days to make sure that no keywords have been deactivated. Make sure you are tweaking and refining your campaigns to make them better.

Do not forget to do split testing of ads which can easily be setup in adwords by creating different ad variations. You can also check the quality score of your ads by turning this feature on from the customize columns dropdown menu in the keywords section of your account.
