As a professional SEO consultant, I have seen and evaluated thousands of website framework. Many of which have been poorly designed and SEO-unfriendly. The problem here lies with companies outsourcing their website design to web design firms that do not possess good SEO abilities or companies performing Do-It-Yourself SEO.
Web Design must support SEO
Many web design firms are still lagging behind the speed of internet technology. Do not rely on the web designer to tell you about SEO and what you need to know to have a SEO friendly site. Many web designers are just designers and they have no interests in the definition of SEO friendly. Do all your research before you have a site built and find a web design firm that can provide everything you need for your site and the search engines.
Getting more than 90% of Flash content on your website would be a bad decision. Major search engines have even yet to confirm if robots can actually read the content embedded in Flash, why rush? I know it is beautiful and classy to have Flash as your platform, but does it help in your search engines ranking? If you can't expose your website, it is as good as parking it on the internet and hoping one day a passer-by might just pop in and take a look.
Keyword Research
Do you really know what keyword research is for? I have met many business owners whom worked on key terms that does not even exist in Overture database. What is the percentage that a searcher is likely to perform a search on your company name or a brand new product that you have launched? 10% or less?
If no one has ever heard of it, how will they search for it? They won't. The research needs to be done to determine what key phrases people would type to find information on what your company is offering or related to.
Hidden Text
Till date, I still see many websites using this dirty Black Hat technique by spamming hidden keywords behind the background. Robots have increased their intelligence and they can detect hidden text from websites. Try this technique and I am 100% sure your website gets penalized and off the indexes of search engines.
Repeating Similar Text Too Often:
This is often overlooked. Try to write your content naturally and write it for human eyes. Try spreading your keywords evenly throughout the page with an estimated of 3.25% keyword density.
These are just some of the most common mistakes made in SEO web design. There are many factors involved in getting your website SEO friendly which i cannot simply list them all out here. Many of which are based on hands-on experiences and I highly recommend business owners to sought the help of professionals when it comes to SEO or SEM. I know that it may be costly but think on the bright side that it can bring you maximum exposure on your business in the world of internet.

I have a medium size site, and It's current google page rank is 4/10. In order to improve its Rank, I'm considering using a mass links submission tool like "All-in-One submission", that will submit a link to my site to few thousands site's. some of them are more legit, like DMOZ, and some of them, I guess, are link farms.
does such a submission is dangerous? can google punish me for doing that?
