For any keyword or phrase you will find tough competition on Google because there are 10 non-paid spots on the first page of Google. Let me tell you honestly that if you do not have a good SEO strategy, in that case there are only two chances of your website being in one (or more) of those top spots - slim and none.

Lets see few reasons which indicate why there are less chances of your website not to get on the first page:

1. Does your website have very little to offer?
   Google aims to provide its customers with content-rich results that are just not repeat of other websites. Add a blog to your website and regularly posting on it with relevant topics for the selected keywords for which you want to get high rank for your website. The fundamental rule is the more often you post fresh content, the more often Google will visit your website for an update.
   

2. Are you making yourself anonymous?
   The fact is, there are billions of websites existing on the internet. If you develop your website without giving any direction to it then you are making it difficult for Google's spider robot to figure out what your website is all about and who you are. Your website should provide keyword rich page/post titles and content and a sitemap of the pages for which you want Google to index. In addition, add an About Us or Contact Us page to provide Google and your readers with a way to connect with you even if you use a pen name. It is expected that your articles, blog posts or web pages mention the exact keyword phrase in the first paragraph that describes the content on that page. Understand that each blog post is a separate page even though your site is showing several on the home or blog home page.

1. Don't you get votes of confidence from others?
   Google does not consider your website worth enough for serving up to its customers if does not see references to your website from other websites especially the ones it deems to be important, it surely think that your website and content is not worthy. There are many ways by which you can accomplish this task without begging webmasters to do it for you. Find out high ranking sites to show a link back to your site. First, Google prefers rich content providers like You Tube, Ezinearticles and Press Release sites. One good way to get a "backlink" is to join in the conversation on high PR blogs or forums. You will have permission to add your website to your signature associated with any comments or postings as long as you are furthering the conversation.

2. Are you wasting time on unnecessary things?
   You should not use text hidden in the background by disguising them with many colors. Do not use keywords in the title. Don't use misleading word on the webpages; strictly use relevant words and phrases. Do not create webpages which automatically direct the website. You should not repeat the keywords in the Meta tags use it only once.
