And I am pretty sure I lost out on plenty of free traffic. Title tags are your first offense for search engine optimization. Without that you miss out on the first step to creating free search engine traffic.   Most web building software comes with an area where you can set the title tags. You can use that or you can go right to the html code and do it there. Most people just use the software, it is easier.   First you want to place  keywords that are associated with the content on that particular page or blog post. 3 or 4 keywords is all you need in the title tag. Don't stuff a bunch of keywords in there you do not need it because hopefully you have enough keywords in the page content.   Secondly you do not want to use the same title tags for every page. You want to use different tags for each particular page. That way the search engine has more different title tags to spider. Which means you would have more of a chance of being ranked in the search engine than just one tag. The engine would have more content of yours to post in it's rankings. The more different keywords you use the more the search engine has to grab. You stand a better chance of being ranked for more topics.   I personally did a search with a few keywords of a site of mine and was shocked when I saw my site on the top of Yahoo. Out of 36 million sites I was on the first page and have been there for months.    And t here it was the exact same title tag keywords I had just placed there a few days ago. It happened that fast.   I knew from that moment on how extremely important title tags where.
