An Overview of Sexually-Transmitted Diseases

There are some diseases which are mainly transmitted through sexual intercourse. They are known as sexually-transmitted diseases (STD).

In fact, STD has been one of the main concerns of human beings for centuries. Unless we can stop all the sexual activities, we have to face the fact that there is a probability of infection when you are having sex with the others.

It is believed that these diseases were spread from the British Empire in the past. The sailors, as well as soldiers brought the diseases back to England. As a result, a clinic was started in 1747 in London in order to fight against these diseases. Doctors in the clinic were constantly studying different STDs to see if there are ways to cure the patients. However, researches and studies at that time used to conclude that these kinds of diseases cannot be totally cure and consequently the doctors would only try to treat the symptoms of the diseases instead.

However, there was light to cure the diseases when antibiotics were discovered. In fact, this benchmark helped the doctors a lot because it make curing STD possible. And this means that doctors started to focus on the ways to cure STD instead of just treating the symptoms.

The government, essentially the public health authorities, also launched campaigns to combat these diseases. Of course they tried to educate the people and let them know STD had become curable. The campaigns are in great success and the number of reported cases declined.

In the 80s of the twentieth century, STD became an essential issue again because cases of AIDS were reported at that time. And as you should be well aware, there is still no way to cure AIDS nowadays.

As discussed, there is a probability of infection unless we stop all the sex activities. And it will be quite difficult for us as human being to stop the activities. As a result, you need to protect yourself during sexual intercourse.

You should always use a condom when you are having sex. Extra attention has to be paid if you are having anal sex and you should use lubricant to lower the possibility of getting hurt. Remember that blood is a perfect agent for transmit STD and wounds may probably increase the risk of infection. You have also bear in mind that AIDS is identical to death nowadays and you should try your best to have safe sex. Otherwise you will be really in danger.
