Defining Sexuality All in an Attempt to Understand Who We are

Defining sexuality is not one of those things you can do in just a single sweeping sentence or statement. It is a broad subject that entails feelings, behaviors, and personal attitudes that adds up to an individuals sense of manhood or womanhood. In more than one ways, sexuality encompasses both public and private characters. The public opinion of an individual is very important when it comes to sexuality. What people think of us is contributed by how we dress and groom. There is a way you are not supposed to dress as a man. There distinctive wears for men and women. If you see a man in a thong and stilettos you will be shocked to death. Women are also not supposed to dress in a certain way according to culture and society.

Sexuality is also reflected in our character and personal demeanor. There is a way a man will behave and he is asked "why are you behaving like a woman?" There is a way the society expects a man and a woman to behave. For instance women are expected to gossip, cry, and walk in a certain style. These are some of the personal traits that are used in defining sexuality. What about professional roles? Nowadays gender equality is trying to bridge up professional gaps but the perceptions of the society are still far from changing. There are some jobs which are expected to be taken up by women like secretarial and beautification. Men on the other hand are supposed to take on mechanical jobs or ones that involve a lot of thinking such as engineering, mechanics and many more.

Sexuality has also been reflected in our behaviors or roles as either parents or partners. There is what is expected of a mother, a father, a wife and a husband. In the yester years wives were supposed to be submissive, obedient and no husband was supposed to be seen anywhere near the kitchen area. In a family, the roles are usually divided considering the sexuality of the children and their parents. For instance in many families the children know who is supposed to pay for fees and pay other bills. When they are hungry and there is no food in the house, they can only ask the mother. This used to be the case in the 20th century but now times are changing. Defining sexuality is now becoming a hard task with sharing of responsibilities equally and many guys plaiting their hair and putting on studs on their ear lobes.

Sexuality is also about personal deeper feelings about attraction and affection towards other people. The sexual interest might differ from one person to another. There are women who feel affectionate towards men and there are those who are sexually attracted towards fellow women. Men who are attracted towards women have been there since the creation of the world but change is inevitable. In the modern world of homosexuality, men are getting attracted to fellow men and women to women. While defining sexuality, physical expression of an individual to oneself or to a partner is also considered. Masturbation and intercourse comes in to the picture this way.
