Practising Safe Oral Sex

Until you know your partner's history, it is always best to practise safe sex and safe oral sex.

* There are safe ways to practise safe oral sex on both men and women. When going down on a woman, there is a product called vaginal dams that helps prevent catching sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

* The vaginal dam (sometimes called a Dental Dam) is latex material, generally 6 inches and it is placed over the entire vulva during oral sex to prevent the possibility of diseases being transmitted, whether it is from mouth to vagina, or vagina to mouth.

* As with everything there are risks associated with using vaginal dams, for example getting a hole in it, however this is the safest way to practise oral sex on women.

* When going down on the woman, make sure you hold its edges with both hands so it doesn't slip when going down on her. The dam should also be used over the anus if you are practising anal oral sex.

* Make sure the dam is only used once. Always use a different dam even if you go down on her even if it is the same night.

* The same dam should never be used on the vagina and then the anus, and the same dam should never be used on more than one person.

* Before using it, it is a good idea to give it a wash to get rid of the rubbery, powdery smell.

Never think of the vaginal dams as a hassle or gross, and they are a great way to practise safe oral sex.

To practise safe oral sex on men use a condom. However the same applies for women, if you are practising oral anal sex, then use the Dam over the anus the same as you would for a woman.

* There are many different condoms now that give you different textures and sensations during sex, for both him and her. Experiment with the different condoms and find the one that suits you, whether it is thin, textured, scented, ripped etc.

* The rubber on the condoms is dry, so it is best to use lube with condoms, to make insertion easier. Condoms can also be used over sex toys to ensure hygiene.

Practising safe oral sex is extremely important on both men and women. Small sores like cold sores can be passed onto people during oral sex causing STDs.

Safety should be a priority when have oral sex or intercourse, especially if you don´t know your partner´s background.
