The Sex Positions Most Likely to Help a Woman Achieve Orgasm During Intercourse

Popular culture - especially porn - can make us all feel inferior and inadequate when it comes to making love. Men think they need to match up to studs who thrust away for hours until their lover collapses in a sweat-soaked orgasmic heap, but only after five mind-blowing orgasms in a row. Women are given images of moaning orgasmic goddesses who come as their insatiable lover thrusts deep into them while he controls their every move and takes them to ecstasy. At least, that's what you might think if you get your ideas of sex from most romantic movies.

(And if you do get your ideas about sex from porn films, remember that men with nine inch erections dispassionately using women for their own sexual pleasure is definitely not what sex is like for most people.)

The truth, of course, as many of us suspect from our own lovemaking, is that most men come quite quickly, and many don't know how to prevent premature ejaculation - or they've long since given it up as a hopeless cause - while the huge majority of women never come at all during sexual intercourse. You may not believe that;; maybe you even think there's something wrong with you if you're a man who can't make love for ages or you're a woman who can't reach orgasm during intercourse, but research confirms these things are the way sex is for most people.

One survey, by VulvaVelvet, revealed that less than one woman in five expects to come during intercourse without any additonal stimulation. Other surveys have produced similar results: over 20 years ago, Shere Hite's surveys showed that only 26% of women reached orgasm through intercourse without some clitoral stimulation. The others only came if they had a helping hand on their clitoris. Things are no different today.

However, maybe this is missing the real issue. Perhaps the question is, "Does this matter?" I guess the answer is that it matters if a woman wants to enjoy orgasm during intercourse!. Some women may just crave more connection and affection during sex, wanting more more caressing, oral sex and intimacy before vaginal penetration, and to have one or more orgasms before penetration, then the solution lies in her lover taking a different approach to sex. If, however, she wants to have an orgasm during intercourse, then she needs the techniques and sex positions that are more likely to make her come - and a lover who can last long enough to make sure she reaches orgasm.

Hmm...now that begins to sound a bit more challenging.

So, here are some sex positions that may help. It's fair to say that most women need clitoral stimulation of some kind, to reach orgasm, during sex or in any other situation. While some women can come from vaginal thrusting alone, most do not, and vaginal stimulation depends on the man not coming too soon and being unable to thrust against his partner's G spot for long enough..

So here we will offer suggestions as to which sex positions will make it more likely that a woman reaches orgasm during intercourse, one way or another.

First then is the familiar man on top position. You'll have noticed, no doubt, that normally the penis doesn't go anywhere near the clitoris as a man thrusts. But the normal man on top position can be modified so that there's more clitoral stimulation, using what's called the Coital Alignment Technique.

After the man penetrates his partner, face to face, with him on top, he shifts his body higher up, with the result that his penis is entering her vagina from a sharper angle. The base of his penis will then be in contact with against the general area of her clitoris. When the couple are in position, he doesn't thrust. In fact, he more or less lies on his partner with his body shifted upwards on hers, and the lovers rock their pelvises against each other until they both come.

A couple can also try this the other way round with the woman on top, and this may well be more successful if the man is heavy.

The next possible candidate for achieving orgasm during sex is the woman on top position. This can be good for a woman because she can alter her rhythm of thrusting, adapt the angle of her body, and move in the exact way to give her the stimulation on her clitoris and vulva most likely to help her attain orgasm.

The same idea but with the female partner facing the other way is a position called the "Reverse Cowgirl". You can work out the origin of that name for yourselves, I'm certain!

There are another two positions to consider if you're into orgasmic intercourse. First off, if rear entry sex does it for you, there's ample opportunity in this position for either partner to stimulate her clitoris as intercourse proceeds. Making sure that she comes before her partner does is important, so he may need to reduce the rate of thrusting or stop thrusting altogether during sex to allow she can get near her orgasm. If you time it right, you may well be able to reach your orgasms simultaneously.

And finally, in this list of sexual positions to make orgasm easier, is the "lying on your side" facing each other position. This is very romantic than the doggy style position, which some women think is a bit impersonal, and it allows for both gentle, slow lovemaking and faster thrusting. Either member of the couple can easily reach down and play with her clitoris, keeping the speed of thrusting slow and steady until it's time to increase it and achieve orgasm.
