The scent of vanilla can remind one of a happy childhood, with the scent of vanilla from the cookies baking in the oven. Guys like the scent of vanilla. Maybe the way to a man's heart is via his stomach after all.
An old perfume you used to wear when dating your first boyfriend, can bring back memories of your first love. The scent you wore while on your honeymoon can remind you of the earlier days of your marriage and the love you felt then.
There is another dimension to scents. Animals communicate and attract their mates through pheromones. Even humans exude pheromones. Scent may subsconsciously be used to weed out the healthy potential mates from the unhealthy ones and men subconsciously want a healthy woman to bear his children. Women subconsciously want a healthy man to father their kids. Scents can be responsible for unexplained attraction or repulsion without consciously knowing why.
Certain scents have an aphrodisiac effect. Jasmine, Ylang ylang and rose are a well known aphrodisiac and is often added to sultry fragrances for that aphrodisiac effect.
However, if you do want to attract the opposite sex, pheromone perfume is the way to go. Just make sure you get the right one for your gender.
