Consider different environments for the storing of wine

Buying wines for investment can be a great idea.  But why flush away all the hard work of researching vintages and grape types and marketable qualities by storing them in poorly considered storage environments.  One of the greatest threats to any good wine ins fluctuating and changing room or storage temperatures. The perfect temperature for any wine is, in the industry, considered to be 10-13 degrees celsius. If your store you good vintage wine at any temperature above than this ideal and the wines will mature faster.  A temperature below will result in a slower development of the wine.  It is possible for wine to be successfully stored slightly above the ideal but the key factor in this success is to ensure that the temperatures do not fluctuate greatly. In this respect storing wine in an outside building like a garage or shed is never a good idea as the temperature fluctuations in these environments will see a significant degradation in the quality of the wine. And storing wine in an attic is again not ideal due to low temperatures in winter and high temperatures in summer.  And to be tempted to store the wine openly in the kitchen on a wine rack should not be considered as temperature changes through cooking will have a great detrimental affect.  And besides, with the wine on show, you are more likely to drink that fine vintage before it has reached its full maturity! So where in the house is an ideal environment for wine storage?  Well, if you are lucky enough for your home to have a basement then this can be ideal.  Or alternatively, if it is not completely full with the children's coats and shoes, storing your vintage collection of wine under the stairs can also provide a suitable environment for its maturing. However, if you do not have a access to a basement, or under the stairs in impractical, then the simplest and most affordable solution for wine storage is a wine cabinet.  Wine Cabinets or wine coolers are offered by many of the major kitchen appliances manufacturers these days and wine coolers can be found at prices ranging from a few hundred pounds, or if you have a serious vintage on your hands, coolers can stretch to the many thousands.  What ever your price range, wine coolers or chillers provide a great environment for wine storage as the temperature is automatically controlled and coolers towards the top price range may also encompass technology to control humidity too!
