Overview:
The GBC Proclick P50 is a small, portable desktop punch made for the GBC Proclick Binding System. The punch is simple to use, but revolutionary in its simplicity, allowing users to open and edit documents in the field using a small zipper tool that easily fits in your pocket. The P50 is portable enough to keep in your car or briefcase, for punching documents on the go and is also ideal for home and light volume users looking for an extremely cost effective binding system.
Features:
The P50 is extremely easy to use - just insert between up to 4 pages into the punching slot and slide the handle across. Although the P50 is rated for up to 6 sheets its difficult to punch more than about 4 at a time. A single sheet however, was also difficult to punch because of a lack of rigidity. Three to four sheets with a cover are the ideal amount. The P50 is easiest to use on a hard flat surface where the machine won't move during punching. but if necessary, can be used in a car or other mobile situation.
This machine works with both letter size sheets and oversize covers. This machine only requires you to line-up the edge of your paper with the correct guide on the machine. Then, you can create your punch, quickly and accurately.
The P50 is both lightweight (only a few pounds) and portable making it the perfect solution for companies with sales representatives. I know a number of organizations that give the P50 to their salespeople in the field and have a larger volume machine in the office for the production of the original documents. This provides the ability to quickly and easily insert literature or sales sheets into a presentation or report on a moment's notice.
The P50 is also a popular choice for home users and extremely small offices that want to try out color coil binding. It can be used along with 3:1 pitch spiral coil to produce the most cost-effective coil binding option on the market. This application will require a pair of oversize oval coil crimping pliers to cut off the excess coil and bend the ends so the coil won't spin back off the book.
Limitations:
While the P50 is ideal for use in small offices, at home or in the field, the punching capacity of the machine is extremely limited. The four-sheet limitation can make binding more than one or two 50 to 100-page proposals almost unbearable and for most offices, the money saved in productivity makes up for the higher price of a larger machine.
In addition, the P50 can't finish a document, only punch it - and although every box of Proclick spines comes with a special zipper tool to close the spines, you may find it faster just to snap the rings together by hand. The P50 can punch documents with an 11" binding edge or oversized covers that are 11.25" x 8.75". However, punching other sizes of documents can be very difficult and the closed throat design doesn't lend itself to punching longer documents.
Additionally, the absence of disengageable die pins makes it difficult to punch shorter documents. This creates a problem when the punch leaves a hole on the edge of the document. All of these features and limitations should be considered before making your ultimate purchasing decision.
Recommendations:
The Proclick P50 is ideal for personal use, home offices and for mobile sales representatives. It is a highly recommended, convenient, portable and flexible binding system that you can use on the go, and even edit documents on the fly. For higher-volume applications, however, it will most likely not withstand heavy use. If your requirements call for binding more than a few presentations per week, a different system is a better option.
