Sony’s New PSP Go

This years E3 convention saw the much talked about new PSP Go console unveiled. The screen of the new PSP slides up to reveal the directional pad and Triangle, Square, X, and Circle buttons. The analog nub is now located to the immediate right of the directional pad and is now a bit bigger and also feels more secure than its predecessor. The Start and Select buttons haven’t been neglected in the design overhaul of the Go either, each getting a bigger, easier to see button. The screen is also a lot different from that of the last PSP, the PSP Go’s screen is slightly smaller, however; the new screen packs the pixels tighter for a much clearer picture. Removing the moving parts of the PSP will be a huge plus for this handheld console; the inclusion of an internal 16 GB solid-state hard drive remedies one of the PSP's biggest weaknesses, its battery life. Another reason the solid-state drive is a big positive is that it is now possible to buy storage memory at such low prices (say the cost of a game) that you’ll be able to expand the memory by an additional eight gigabytes. This basically means that with most PSP games being around a gigabyte in size, you’ll be able to carry an extra 8 games around with you in your console without the additional weight and annoyance of carrying all those extra UMD games. The only complaint that has been made about the new PSP console is that the Triangle, Square, X, and Circle buttons are a little bit too stiff to be able to play games easily and comfortably, however; this small issue could well be fixed by the time it’s released in October. Sony obviously has big plans for the PSP for the rest of this year and it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see the new PSP Go released with some of the new games already installed on it; a Metal Gear Solid-Peacewalker, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, or Motorstorm: Arctic Edge PSP Go pack would no doubt be very popular.

The PSP has always been a very popular games console and the new PSP will build on its predecessor’s success. Now is probably a good time to get a cheap PSP original.
