What is a shofar?
A shofar is a horn made from the horn of a ram or a kudu. Cattle horns cannot be used to make a shofar because it is prohibited by law. The horn of a kosher male is used to make a shofar. A shofar is an essential part of the Judaica custom and is blown during occasions like the Rosh Hashanah. While the horn of a kudu is used to make Yemenite shofars, a rams horn shofar is common in Ashkenazi and Sefardi.
Where can you buy a small shofar?
To buy a small shofar, all you need to do is visit a Jewish store. There are plenty of these stores available all over the country and they are bound to keep at least one small shofar at any time. There are varieties of small shofars available in the Jewish stores and you can take your pick. If you are of the sort who doesn’t like to visit stores, then you can also use the Internet. There are multiple websites where you can find a small shofar for sale. The advantage of a website is that at the click of the mouse, you get to see all the varieties of small shofars that are available with them. These items are available in various shapes and sizes and you can choose as per your personal preference.
Religious uses
A small shofar is an essential item if you belong to the Jewish community. Among the religious uses, a small shofar is blown in a synagogue to mark the end of Yom Kippur. It is also blown during four special occasions during the Rosh Hashanah prayers. Throughout the month of Elul, shofar is blown at the end of the Morning Prayer.
Other uses
Apart from its religious uses, a small shofar can also be used as a decorative piece. There are homes across the country that use small shofars for decorative purposes. It is not essential that you have to be Jewish to use a shofar. Many non Jewish homes also have shofars as adornments. A beautifully crafted small shofar adds glamour and aura to the drawing rooms and can cause envy among neighbors. Shofars have also been used in Western classical music. Some Israeli bands also use shofars in their music.
Luck factor
It is said that a small shofar brings luck to the home where it is kept. Although some people don’t believe in this concept, there are many who use small shofars not only to decorate their homes but also to bring in good luck.
