For centuries generation after generation of men and women have gazed into mirrors and dreamed of a fountain of youth that could turn back the clock on their face. The first products to be developed and hawked by snake oil salesmen were for the most part oil based lotions and balms that had the effect of smoothing the skins surface.
In times when soap was made from lye, any relief from dry cracked skin was welcome. The claims that the product manufacturers made were all basically the same, reduced age spots, wrinkle reduction and and tighter more youthful looking skin. The fact of the matter is that none of them worked and it was only until recent times that products have been introduced to the market that actually have the effect of turning back the clock on a persons face.
These newer effective products came about as the result of extensive research aimed at gaining an understanding of the dynamics of damaged and aging skin. It was only after it was understood just what took place to cause the wrinkles and age spots that they could be effectively addressed.
For instance, when you tan your skin produces pigment to protect you from the harmfully effects of the suns rays. When the season changes and you stay indoors your skin has a system for eliminating the pigment that was causing the tan. As you age this system begins to malfunction in discreet areas of the skin and leads to the formation of age spots.
It was only through research that an understanding of this process was gained and in turn substances were developed that stimulate the skin to activate its system to rid itself of pigment. This in turn has led to the development of skin treatment products that have been shown in clinical tests to lighten and even eliminate dark skin spots.
