Cellulite Trouble

Cellulite is a problem that affects 90% of women and is brought about by eating too much fatty foods and also hormonal changes during pregnancy. The medical term for cellulite is Lipodystrophy and it is also known as localized fat. Cellulite is made up of deposits of subcutaneous fat that causes a lumpy or bumpy look on the overlying layer of skin.

While most men do not get cellulite, most women happen to suffer from some degree of it at some point in their lives whether they are overweight, underweight, or average. Fact is, any woman can get cellulite no matter how slim, while only very few men who happen have a low testosterone count get it.

While the “lumpy orange peel” look is not overly appealing, cellulite is so common that most women regard its presence as normal and part of the natural process of things. Genetics, hormones, age, body fat and skin texture all play a part in the amount of cellulite that occurs in a woman.

Preventing cellulite

Although hormones play a large part in the presence of cellulite, research has shown that hormone therapy will not treat the problem. Liposuction can remove the fat but not the cellulite and mesotherapy is only a temporary solution.  . Chemists have been trying to find that one magic solvent to break down cellulite and have come with creams that help somewhat, but modern science has yet to figure out a way to completely eliminate cellulite.

Going on a diet does help; however, this alone will not eliminate the fatty lumps. A combination of diet and exercise has been found to contribute to elimination of unsightly cellulite. Exercise is probably  the best way to get rid of cellulite especially exercises that are focused on the lower part of the body. Jogging, cycling, walking and swimming are all good examples of activities that will help you tone your hips, thighs and rear. 20 minute massages to help break down the fatty deposits also help in eliminating cellulite.

While cellulite is normal, no one really wants to have it. The best way to eliminate it is to do things that help decrease the amount of body fat you have. Exercise and eating right are two great ways to achieve this as are maintaining a low stress life and getting plenty of fresh air.
