The itching, burning pain of eczema can rule your life making it nearly impossible to concentrate and be yourself in social situation. The dry rashes characteristic of this condition can do more than cause irritation but can affect your health and mental wellbeing also. To add to these woes many go to their doctor and get prescribed short term solutions that can be quite dangerous such as Corticosteroids which can have life threatening side effects on some people. Thankfully you can control this with an eczema home treatment by implementing a regime in your life to counter the symptoms and the core problems of eczema flare ups.
Some tips for your home treatment regime are:
- Cleansing
If you suffer eczema you must keep your skin clean which means washing and cleansing it every day; especially the problematic areas. As a result of the condition eczema sufferers have skin that lacks the same protective chemicals that healthy skin has that keeps harmful substances out. This means that even light irritants such as dust can adversely affect you and cause flare ups. This means that when cleaning yourself and your house you must avoid these irritants and reduce them whenever possible.
Make sure you change your sheets regularly and vacuum your carpets often to lower dust and particles and when cleaning make sure you do not get detergent and soap on you. When showering do not use normal soap as it is a major contributor to flare ups. Instead use a liquid soap free cleanser and make sure it is not perfumed nor has other additives, the less frills the better. Lastly when drying yourself use a clean towel pat yourself down do not rub the towel over your skin. - Avoid irritants
As mention in the previous tip many substances can cause flare ups on your unprotected skin. By keeping a close eye on these substances you can avoid a lot of pain.
Wool, nylon and polyester should be avoided as the fibers of those materials can aggravate your skin, materials like rubber and plastic should also not be worn without a cotton under layer to keep them away from your skin.
Any liquids with powerful chemical properties like detergent, chlorine, soap and so on should also be avoided - Foods
Food has come under close scrutiny by many scientists and doctors as being much more important to how our body protects itself and on how the nutrients in certain food can help or hinder a person depending on their condition.
Eggs, peanuts, milk, soy beans, wheat and seafood have all been shown to be problematic to people with eczema to various degrees. Cutting these out of your diet or minimizing your intake can be beneficial in keeping flare ups under control.
Now you have a regime basis for your eczema home treatment you can look at products you can apply to your skin to help protect them directly and moisturize it at the same time. There are a wide variety of ointments, oils and gels that can help protect and soothe your skin such as aloe vera and vaseline for example but you must make sure they are unperformed and unaltered with harsh chemicals or you defeat the entire point. Each person is different and reacts differently and needs different amounts of these products but as long as you stick to your regime and apply these you should be able to control your eczema with ease!
