How To Apply Blush

Apply blush to your face to resemble the natural glow of your cheeks and watch the compliments flow in. A hint of makeup blush…and you can look fresher and prettier. The trick lies in choosing the right blush color and learning how to apply blush correctly. But often blush remains the most misused makeup cosmetics. When it comes to applying your blush, less is best. Blush is a best way to accent and enhance your cheekbones. Depending on the look you want to achieve you may want to consider using blush as a highlighter or to contour and in some cases both.

There are several factors to consider when choosing a blush. The first is selecting the right color and the second is selecting the right blush for your skin type.

Blush Color:

Fair skin tones are best suited to pink, tawny, and beige blushes. Darker skin tones look best in plumbs if they are cooler and auburns or rich bronzes if they are warmer. For olive to yellow skin tones, try blushes in copper, almond, and warm brown shades. Finally, tanned skin often looks best on warm colors like peach, coral, apricot, and orange. Varying the intensity of blush -- bolder colors for darker skin and softer colors for fairer skin-- will help you achieve a natural glow.

Blush Type:

Powder blushers provide a natural looking finish. Generally it is easy to apply, goes on smooth and blends well. Apply with a wide brush after you have applied your foundation or powder. Select a texture that is sheer and can easily build upon. Additionally powder blush is recommended for oily.

Cream blushes are oil-free. Apply with fingertips to give a more precise and even result. Additionally, cream blushers blend easily and provide a natural result. Cream blushers are appropriate for normal to dry skin types. Furthermore, cream blush is recommended for dry and mature skin as it blends easily.

A proper blush application with the right color can add dimension to your face and accentuate your facial features. A blush can add depth and elongate your face and make it look thinner.

Apply Blush Makeup:

Using small strokes, softly sweep the blusher Brush up the cheekbone towards the hairline. Use a good blush brush. For an especially realistic look apply a bit of blusher across the top of the forehead, the chin and the bridge of your nose.

Apply blush by brushing the cheek color lightly over the apple of the cheek using short, up-and-down vertical strokes moving toward the top of your ear in a teardrop shape with the thinner part at the top and the wider part pointing toward your nose.

Swipe your brush over your cheek about three times, making strokes back and forth or round and round. Put a big smile on your face so your cheeks perk up (these are the apples of your cheeks) and you may even see some dimples. Place the brush over your cheeks and make strokes with the brush from your cheeks (towards your nose) to the side of your face (towards your ears). Move the brush in a circular fashion as well before going to do the other side of your face.
