Top Ways to Protect yourself From the Sun

Summer is the perfect season to go outdoors and have fun with the kids, family, friends and even pets. It is the time when you go to beaches, have picnics and enjoy frolicking under the sun. Although summer is a great time to go out and have fun, it is also important that you do not forget to protect yourself and your family from the sun.

The most common conditions that are caused by overexposure to sunshine are prickly heat and sunburn. Although these two conditions are benign, they can still be truly annoying. Prickly heat can be terribly itchy and scratching the area affected could lead to wounds and infection. Sunburn, on the other hand, can result in the formation of blisters, which are also prone to infection.

It is important to note that prolonged or frequent exposure to the sun's rays can lead to skin aging. Skin blemishes, discoloration, and formation of age spots and wrinkles on the face, hands and arms are some of the ill-effects of unprotected sun exposure. If you think that your skin--particularly in the eye area--seems to develop fine lines and wrinkles prematurely, then you need to start findings ways in which you can protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun. Following are some tips on how you can protect yourself and your loved ones from the sun's rays while you enjoy the outdoors.

Know When To Stay Indoors

If you want to minimize your exposure to the sun's rays, you better stay indoors from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon. This is the time when the sun is at its hottest; so you do not want to be swimming, playing games or doing any outdoor activity at these times. Try to schedule your activities early morning so you can still reap the benefits from the sun.

Drink Lots Of Water

During the summer months, people tend to sweat and expel a lot of fluids. Since water is important in many bodily functions, including the moisturizing the skin from within, you need to make sure that you drink plenty of water during this season.

If you are on a beach or exposed to the sun, it would be better to drink at least two to four glasses of fluids per hour. However, make sure that you stay away from caffeine-rich beverages and alcohol; such beverages are diuretics and can make you lose instead of keep fluids inside your body.

Apply Sun Block

If you have to go out, always remember to wear sun block, preferably with a sun protection factor of 30 and above. Make sure that the product you are using shields you from both the UVA and UVB rays of the sun.

There are many sunscreen and sun block lotions available in the market. However, you need waterproof sun protection cream when you are going to swim or basking on the beach. Furthermore, you need to reapply your sunscreen as often as possible for continued protection.

Use A Hat And Sun Glasses

Many people are not fond of hats, sun visors, and sunglasses because they think that these things are cramping their style. However, these accessories are important because they can shield you from direct exposure to the sun. Furthermore, they also protect your eyes. The skin around the eyes is very sensitive so just a little exposure to the sun without protection can cause skin discoloration, wrinkles and dryness.

Use Moisturizer

When you reach the age of 30, you should start using moisturizer for your face to keep your skin hydrated, especially during the summer months. It is also important that you use an eye cream, such as Eyevive, to counter the effects of skin aging that sun exposure might bring to the eye area.
